Can a bro confirm the part I have is correct? It's a Lemforder from Autohausaz, that looks like the picture above but without any seams at all. And mine has a bit of a lip on one end.

Sounds like an original design RTAB. The ones that were installed from the factory are like that. They are not a split design and do have a lip. I believe they were available for a while, but the new split-case design has replaced them for the most part.

They're interchangeable. I'd venture a guess that the split case design came into play to provide ease of installation, ironically, seeing the original post in this thread. It also makes for easier removal.

Here man. I snapped these when I did mine. New vs old...

Oh and to clarify, the bushings with the larger split (like mine) ARE meyle - its stamped on the rubber.

The KEY is using two SS hose clamps to compress the two halves together, which allows the bushing to press in with a simple pusher tool. Without the clamps it would be impossible to install them.

BTW - they kick ass... very tight.... and I'm not using shims.
exactly what I did. they slid in after doing this and using a ton of lube.

Thanks man. I def got an 'old' one. It's probably what the body shop installed on my pass. side anyway. How long are the 'old' ones supposed to last?

Okay, totally OT, but I've been laughing at it for a couple days now and gotta ask: Nick, is your Schrödinger's (sp?) cat diagram in any way, shape or form related to a deep-seated love for all things Douglas Adams? If so, rock. If not, it's still pretty great...

The original("old") one piece style RTAB's are still available from suppliers(RMEuro and Turner, to name two), just not from BMW. Probably another instance where BMW drops one part in their system when another

(I think the two piece style was first used on the Z4) part in the system will work. Simplifies their parts system.

Afraid not man. I just dig physics. I admittedly haven't read Hitchhiker's guide, so i'm ignorant to any correlation between Douglas Adams and The Cat.

Good enough... It's not actually in H2G2, he mentions it very briefly in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency... Someone actually tries to do the experiment... Brilliant...
