Stepped headers give you the best of both worlds, low end torque and high end horsepower. Typical stepped headers start off smaller and make progressively larger increments in size as the header extends. Each bank receives this style in equal lengths. The size of the tube and length each tube is at one specific size is what determines the power you are tuning for.


We just started to mess with stepped headers when I left the aftermarket Harley exhaust company I was working for. We had 3 to 4 tube size changes in our headers.


Stepped headers are what made the SuperSprint offerings worthwhile again (E46 M3). It's a superior design.
