Thanks guys! Really appreciate the kind words. This was the first road trip I've really taken with the car since picking it up and it did great. Easy car to tear up some highway miles with.
Hmm that’s a new one to me. Wonder if it was a previous owner who fitted it or we are mixing up the heater mat (which looks very different). It’s too fragile to fit between cushion and upholstery. Besides that, the contacts would not close correctly to sense a passenger.
The sensor mat should be located at the bottom of the seatpan as pictured above.
CBlocks pic is not and E36 sensor mat, the e36 uses a different connector (and style mat).
I should have taken more pictures when I had the seats apart but the sensor was not under the cushion in the seat pan, it was is inside the cushion.
Anyways, I wanted to get the car back together so I pulled the headliner and recovered it this weekend. No before pictures but it was pretty much only attached at the sunroof and drooping everywhere.
I used a generic headliner fabric from Amazon, and had plenty of material. It was easy to work with and looks close enough to stock for me. It is a bit darker but not sure if that is because the factory material has faded...close enough.
It came out good and overall I'm happy with it. Taking A/B/C pillars out of these cars sucks and I did a pretty good job destroying one A pillar. Going to take my time and try and come up with a good way of fixing it.
I gave the seats a good scrubbing with some citrus degreaser and a leather brush, then Leatheriqued them most of yesterday. I've always liked Leatherique, some don't, but I'd like to believe the painted leather is still porous enough for it to work.
In any case, the seats look much better and it breathed a little life into the interior. Now just need a new steering wheel and to get rid of that ugly auto shifter!
