    SSK for E36 M3s with E46 M3 6MT

Quick question for those who have done this before.

Since I have the six-speed manual from an E46 M3, am I correct to assume that when shopping for a SSK, I should look for one that's made for the E46 M3?

I have an AC Schnitzer SSK for the E46 M3 and wanted to know if this is the appropriate kit for my car before I started installing it.

    Many thanks in advance!

You need E36 specific linkage. Essentially you are using the Euro transmission.

You also need to find an ssk that raises the ball pivot point. There is limited space on the E36 with the 420G in and the new giubo location.

I bought the Dinan E46 M3 lever and used the Euro linkage. You can see it in my journal. While a little firm, it is very precise and short.

Sorry. Let's back up a little bit.... I already have the 6MT installed and it's fully operational in my E36 M3.

The E36 specific linkage you mentioned, is that part of the SSK? Or can I use the existing one from my car with the E46 M3 SSK?

          Thanks again for your help.

You need to talk to Rouge Engineering.

Sorry for my initial confusion. The term "linkage" threw me off. I didn't know that it's a reference to the term "selector rod".

After calling a few places, I was pretty sure that an E46 M3 SSK works for me. However, I'll have to source an E36 selector rod on my own.

I just spoke to Rogue Engineering. They currently don't have a complete E46 M3 SSK in stock, and won't certify the use of Rogue SSK on an E36 M3 with an E46 M3 6MT (unofficially, it's been done by those who have their E46 M3 SSK).

UUC was quick to confirm that I may use their 109mm DSSR with my own E46 M3 SSK.

              Thanks again for your help!

                  Could you explain?

I basically just wanted to figure out how I can install my ACS E46 M3 SSK, which comes with the ACS carrier on my E36 M3 with an E46 M3 six-speed.

                  Thanks

                      Any more thoughts, guys?

I already have an ACS E46 M3 SSK and would much rather use it than spend more money on something else.

twentyseven mentioned an E36 M3 linkage. I am assuming that my car already has one. So am I good to go?

I can also source a used ACS E36 M3 Evo SSK from abroad. Would that be a better choice for my application?

                      Thanks!

I am not trying to be difficult...

I just wanted to make 100% sure that there won't be any issues when I start taking things apart to install this SSK.

                          Thanks!

                            But you are being difficult...

                            I'll hold your hand here:

The shift linkage (AKA shift carrier, selector rod, and shift lever - everything an SSK replaces) has specific geometry to center the shifter in the transmission tunnel/interior console while preventing contact with any moving parts. Using E46 specific LINKAGE centers the pivot point in the assembly relative to the E46 chassis. The E36 does not have the same tunnel and console.

Since clearance is tight to begin with under there, using the linkage from a different car will either cause contact with the flex disc/driveshaft or move the shift pattern to a worse position relative to the driver (or both). The E36 and E46 are similar enough that you might be able to make it work, but it's just silly to use the wrong parts knowing the result will not be ideal when the correct ones already exist.

Uuc is known for quality issues. Some of their stuff is okay but we had a car that had one of their shift carriers that had comically disintegrated.
