E36 M3 Power Upgrades and Weight Reduction | Need Suggestion

    Hello Everyone!

Looking for suggestions for power upgrades for E36 M3 S50B32.

My car is completely stock, except for the x brace. I have also ordered a supersprint race cat back exhaust. Need suggestions on what else can be done.

We don't have any tuner here that has experience remapping the ECU for these cars, so I am not comfortable with any modification which will require remapping the ECU.

Need suggestions on a good intake. Or should I just go with a high flow drop in filter?

I am also looking for suggestions for a bit of weight reduction. But not planning to go too aggressive on it.

I am considering putting in some sparco sports seats.

Really appreciate all advice and suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hasan

are you open to a reflash i think evolve can do them remotely or something based on what mods you do. you arent going to gain much if you want something that doesnt need a retune

If a well reputed tuner can do it remotely, I will be very interested.

I am not much into the power upgrades, but I think it has been covered extensively that gaining real HP numbers out of an M3 cost big dollars and not really worth it in the end.

Your engine is already pretty manic as it is and fairly efficient in regards to HP.

Also, think it has been covered that flashing a stock car is fairly worthless.

What is your goal? High HP?

After researching for the past year and reading up on a lot of member's experiences if you're looking for power your only options are engine swap or turbo. Otherwise, this car is meant as a momentum car if you're looking to track it. Straight line speed you're looking at spending a good deal of $. Just my .02.

Well you can expect top end gain (probs less than 10 hp) by changing out intake airbox to OEM E46 CSL ones or Gruppe M. You've done the exhaust, so I wouldn't really touch more if I were you.

There's a member on here that goes by 0-60, he's somewhat in your area and would know a tuner

There are substantial gains to be had on an S50B32 IF done properly. It is not cheap. I can personally attest to that.

In order for this to happen, you must think of everything as a "system." You can't just do it piecemeal.

At a minimum you will need to address the following items:

-headers (including crossover) rest is irrelevent

-cams (preferrably motorsport cams - not schrick)

-injectors to go along with cams

                -intake

-ECU - hacking the factory ECU is just that - a hack. It will never allow you to realize the full potential of your modifications.

There are other items but I suspect that list will scare away most people.

CSL motorsport intake - Not from a CSL because that won't work on the S50B32

                Motorsport headers:

Custom headers - a compromise - not as much of a gain as motorsport headers:

                Motorsport crossover:

I agree that it is big dollars. "Worth" is relative because you can get big numbers out of an S50B32. Also agree that flashing a stock ECU is not "worth" it. Using a standalone is another story.

True if your looking to go 450 hp plus on a budget. Yes it's obvioulsy MUCH cheaper to do a turbo. Also agree that it's way beyond what 99% of people would be willing to spend on a naturally aspirated S50B32. Personally I'd never turbo that engine but that's just me.

Nobody has an actual CSL intake that fits properly other than the one I posted above. Actually the one above is a CSL Motorsport replica as there is a difference from the street version. Throttle body spacing is different for the S54.

Thanks. This is what I read almost everywhere.

Thanks. I just want it to be a bit more fun and alive if it makes any sense. I am not a fan of turbos. I will be doing like 10-12 track days a year and around 6 - 8 auto x events. However, it will also be my daily drive. So I will like to maintain reliability.

Thanks. Will I need to remap the ECU with the CSL airbox?

WoW! Those are some sick mods. But would it not be better to just put in a supercharger? Thanks

                    Guys!

If I remove the back seat, will I get a lot of noise from the back?

                    Thanks

Not the first car. But the first one to get this treatment.

you do realize that a new Toyota Camry has more horsepower than a e36 m3?

Just checked and the E36 M3 has more power than the Camry.
