'95 vs. '96-'99 Which is better?

I was wondering what any of you think about the difference between the 1995 M3 and the 1996-1999 M3's. Besides the engine size, I don't know what is the difference. Should I try and look to buy a newer model or search around for a 99? Also, is now the best time to buy one or should I wait until the spring/summer, is there a price difference? Thanks for the help guys, I'm just starting with research and trying to find the right car that I want and what package and I would appreciate any advice you have. later! :???:

yes there is , 96+ have more torque , although if u want to do mods more major than sharking it, i/e you usually have to go back to obd1 , there are supercharger and turbo charger kits available for obd2 but there quite expensive ..if your planning on just a daily driver with basic mods get a 99 m3 , believe me its very fast with an intake exhaust , sharked and suspension and braking upgrades its a very high performance car go for a 99:thumbsup:

just read my post and i dont think i answered your question to well , 96+ have .2 liters more giving it more torque to begin with , after modding it you will still have more torque ... www.eurocarweb.com go there click on project cars they have been modding a 95 m3 and show dyno charts at every stage it will give you a good idea of what to expect

they eventually have it beating a viper:thumbsup:

if you want a daily driver go with the 96+ the 95 will give you more increases but it wont be as reliable and I doubt you'll be able to find one with low miles......and they don't come with traction control

yeah.. there is a button that says ASC that u hit to turn the trac control off.. this will allow you to spin them wild.. but for the most part i left mine on when i drove mine.. in the summer i kicked it off alot.. in the spirited driving..

for a daily driver w/ slight/minor mods (i/h/chip/cat/exhaust,) I would get the newest/lowest mileage car you can afford... the OBD I is probably easier to mod/responds to mods better but it'd be difficult to find a low mileage 95...

yeah theres no ? about it.. even if you see a low mileage 95, its not any good because it hasn't been run enough.. the seals will probably be bad and then ur in a whole lotta trouble.. i would just get a nice 98 or 99..

Personally, I would go with the 95. The OBD I computer is better than the OBD II, and not only that it wont cost as much when you smog it. Other than that there is not much real difference between the 95 and the 96-99's. The 96-98 have the 3.2L I6 engine, with 240hp, and the 95's have 3.0L I6 with 240 hp. In the 99's it has the 3.2L with 270 hp and the double VANOS engine as opposed to the single VANOS in the 95-98. I wouldnt pay money to get the 99's instead i would get a E46 01 M3 and pay the extra money, because if you find a low mileage (very rarily) E36 99 M3, it is going to be anywhere from $30,000 to $35,000. I don't think its worth that much. The 01 E46 is only worth about the same or a little bit more than the 99 E36, and not only that, you get a completely new body style, design, a double VANOS engine with a 3.2L I6 double VANOS and 333hp and a lot more torque than the 99, and you also get the wide body chassis which makes a BIG difference when your cornering. It helps improve your turning radius, and it allows you make sharper turns.

sorry, didnt mean to hijack this thread, but, eurosport, any details on ur ride?

                            btw . . . my input is as everyone else's, heavy mods = obd1, light mods = obd2
