I had an '01 S4, my wife has an '01 A4 1.8t, and now I have a '99 M3 with shark injector/CAI/Supersprint exhaust.



M3 vs. 1.8t....no comparison, if your friend is any where near you in any gear you are probably doing something wrong...even if he has exhaust and chip.



M3 (my M3 with those mods which I don't think make a huge diff) vs. stock S4. They are close, even at this altitude of 5000'.

I had a ABT chip in my S4 which is supposed to make 310bhp. It really felt like it made 310bhp, but when you actually race it against a stock s4 it's not that big a difference. This was experemented with different drivers so I don't think it was a skill issue.



My friend has an '01 S4 with ABT chip and exhaust. When following him he was unable to gap me when I was in my M3. He is as good or a better driver than myself.



Incidentally...in terms of fun to drive, the M3 is sooo much more fun than the S4 was. The S4 is a great car however (except for the brakes which warp in several laps at the track).
