    Is it an M5 or a 540?

Well, it's still a M5. It's just not going to be performing like one.

What if I take a transvestite and it looks sexy as hell. I'm not going to call it a woman because on the exterior it looks like one. If it didn't come from the "factory" with the parts that make it a woman, I'm not going to pretend it's the real thing....or something.

I'm not trying to be an ass about it, but there are so many people in Jax, Fl that think that because they have a tricked out 3 that they can put an M badge on it. Mine is a 98 2 door (pics soon) with Dinan stage 3 engine and it really isn't the world's fastest car. I will lose to cars with turbo kits and chargers, but my money is well spent on keeping one of the best cars ever produced healthy and running. As long as I can enjoy my drive without every high schooler in a 88 Civic (type R, mind you...which i'm sure were availabe then) trying me, then I'm okay...problem is that that doesn't happen often enough!

Hmm... to be honest I think BMW disagrees with most of you.

In my experience BMW does not use the ///M badge exclusively for ///M cars. They use it to signify that it's an M-Tech equipped car. Whilst this may not be the case in NA, it's most certainly the case in other markets; even the BMW factory and museum in Munich acknowledges this.

However, the combination of ///M and the series number has always signified the full M-Tech factory built car. Interestingly the exception here is NA where you have the only ///M series car that's not built in the M-tech factory.

IMO, let them use the ///M, BMW allow them to, but if you ever see a non M series car with an M series badge... have a polite word to the owner.

The "One Lap" 318ti did not have a Euro M3 motor, it had an AA turbocharged US M3 motor... and it didn't have an M badge slapped on the back of it, it had a 330ti badge.

You've got a picture of a Prelude in your sig and your complaining about people owning a 318ti?

My wife's SCed 318ti is a ton of fun to drive since it's ~300lbs lighter than my M3 with almost as much power (190rwhp), still gets 30mpg on the highway and with the seats down is incredibly useful for hauling stuff around that would never come close to fitting in my M3.

I always thought the hatch was hot... I love the 318TI's. As soon as I find one w/ low miles, records, blue w/ grey leather + ///M Package i'm buying it for the wife.

Hey, I don't own the prelude anymore...it was my first car.

I'm going to update my sig once I get my xenons installed.

And for the money, the prelude was a great car. At least it wasn't a BMW wannabe that the mags called disappointing.

The prelude has good lines too...nice looking car. The 318ti looks like the creator got bored and just ended the rear.

I'd rather have an M3 with a 318 badge on it than a 318 with an M3 badge on it...

                          Hey 98Technovlt,

I don't think ANYONE would rather have a 318 over an M3 regardless of the badging.

I'd take an M3 over a 318 if the M3 had a large paper mache peni.s attached to the rear.

There should be no swaping of badges, up or down. Either leave it or take it off. Simple modifications to a car make it a modified ___. An engine swap, which I believe to be the heart of the car, make it neither the original car nor the car which the engine came from. This would be a good time to debadge it.

I would love to have a 318 or 318 ti, throw out the engine and plop something else in. I would do that with my M but what a waste.

Hahaha, paper mache penis....nice...I think he meant if swapping 318>M3 or M3>318...the better choice would to start out with an M3 and add a 318 BADGE(the analogy of your paper mache penis).
