The E36 will hand a C36 it's ass in handling. It was the best rated the best handling road car over $30K by Car and Driver in 1997 over F355, Viper, Vett, and Porsche Boxster & Carrera.

That was manuel vs Auto so it should be real close auto vs auto.
My personal experience was racing a C43. 1st-3rd gear I had a
2-3 CL lead but shifting into 4th he blew right by me. Same result all 4 races.Comment

I believe that most people can sanely drive the e36 faster... but it's true that with the same experienced driver the C36 is is slightly faster. I'd still take the M3 tho.
