Okay okay Uncle .. I give up .. maybe I drive too hard. I'm new to my 97M3 which has all dinan mods (except compressor). Sometimes when I get on my car hard it doesn't perform like a performance car should. When shifted at 6500 it'll puff a little blue smoke (my 72 CSL did that and it was normal to use a little oil). When short shifted the clutch slips.
Clutch Slip (my mechanic drove it and said great power & clutch is fine). If I press too har too fast it'll slip (ie, power not getting to the tires). Just today I missed a 5500 rpm up shift went from 2nd to 5th at around 60mph .... there was no more acceleration only slip .. same as when I accelerate too hard. The mechanic says that M3 clutches will do that especially when hot after hard driving. Not very comforting if I need power drifting the car into a corner.
Possibly related -- sometimes off the line or after a 90 degree 1st gear turn the car will stall/hesitate/stumble ... I thought it was my nearly slick tires tripping the ASC so I got new GY F1s all around and it still does it. If I don't lift and catch the motor before the stall it'll die and then after the restart it'll act like a flooded carb. car and die unless I rev to 4000 and slip the clutch to get the car going.
This M3 is fun but it has quirks like those darn prancing horse cars and frankly my TurboSupra has the same power and none of the temperament. I purchased the M3 used from a well known AMLS prototype racer who miss represented the car so of course I'm worried that these bugs aren't common to the M3 but may be a sign of bigger problems (like the oil puff at hard shifts).
Any ideas or suggestions? The car has 68K miles and spent most of it's time in FLA, AZ & Cali.
