I confess to being a car racist. I hate Neons.

Exactly when did the transformation take place for the car that was originally marketed primarily toward women, making popcorn pop as it drove through country fields saying "HI", to be so cool and hip to the younger generation? Was it the turbo?

    I just don't get it???

I do have respect for most cars on the road, but not this one....

I wouldn't buy one of those Neon pieces of crap. You can polish a turd, but when you're done.. it's still a TURD!

Has anyone seen a 3 year old Neon? How about a 5 year old Neon? I don't think there are many 7 year old Neons on the road. They are rusting away in a junk yard.

Neons are unreliable, noisey, & cheap. They are one of America's big three's disposable cars. Sure they can go fast in a straight line. So does a TransAm. But who would want drive that on the track and still drives it to work on Monday? Gentlemen, we are a God blessed luncky bunch to own an M3. M3s are the best handling car that I have ever driven. Bar none.

i was in fourth, and shifted up to 3rd, but didnt slam it, just rode the clutch a little until i saw him start to take off. we probably started more around 50mph..

Well, I have a few thoughts on the issue.

              1. If he gets a jump on you it could make all the difference in the world. I don't care what he drives, if it is moderately fast he will beat you if he gets a jump on you!

              2. Race one on an a track or canyon roads and then see who gets left behind. I know that the M3 is not the fastest thing on the road, but it is the whole package! WELL MADE SOLID GERMAN CAR, HANDLES AWESOME, AND FAST! We Americans are great at making junk that is fast 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but handles like crap and rattles and shakes and falls apart quickly! The corvette is probably the exception to that rule (as far as handling goes). Look at all the "muscle cars". I remember when the Z06 came out and one of the Mags did a test on it and one of the comments made was "it doesn't rattle". That is very telling, because up until then all the corvettes rattled from the get go.

              3. Lastly, whats up with that 70's jacked up rear end on the SRT-4. How in the world can the designers at dodge think that looks good?

I was debating on whether to post this or not, because it's kinda embarassing, but I got lit up by a Dodge Ram the other day. I was going about 35 in 5th and this dild0 starts to pass me in the suicide lane! I had slowed to go over some train tracks, so he was already halfway past me before I got over the tracks. After the tracks, I dropped to 3rd, but it was too late, he got in front of me and he and his redneck buddies were having a hootinany. Granted he got the jump, and I chose the wrong gear, but I was impressed with the torque that Ram laid down. Dodge must be really working on the straight line acceleration lately.

Slap a turbo on a neon and it's still a neon. Yea they're impressive for what $21k, but for that same 21k, you could pick up a nice M3, and like what was said earlier, I bet you won't see too many over 5-7 years old. They can drag race and impress the lame, but so can a 67 comaro, and I don't think you want to drive one of those on a twisty mountain road.

SRT-4 are crap i ran against one yesterday that was running 18lbs and we were even and then the second time i beat him, MY CAR IS STOCK

                    :haha:

Ill call BS on that. 18lbs on that car is a good amount... the car i ran, i later found out was running 17lbs on a stock turbo (had plenty of other performance goodies though). he whooped me good and was still pulling. i know i walked away from that race with the better overall car though

also, funny how my 5 year old M3 had a $4000 higher value than a brand new SRT-4.

I think SRT-4's are great. I drove one. Handled very well, braked no problem. Seats were awesome. The damn thing pulled like crazy. I guess tahts because it was a newer one (2004), which dyno's higher than the 2003. Those things really move, and they're really a great car. Dodge refuses to call it a neon. And I agree, its not a neon. It looks like one though. But I think it looks cool too lol. Friend of mine has one stock he ran 13.6 at 106. He's a great driver too, skip barber racing school. His father has a 1000 hp viper TT... which he blew the transmission out of and got it replaced like 3 days later. Don't lose respect for dodge. You might find that in a few years our m3's are going to be worth less than them.

For the MY 05's they have a $399.00 Mopar upgrade kit that get you about 260HP, what can we get for that kinda money? LOL those still have the manual roll up windows, I thought those went out in the late 1970's.
