    Re-Programming BMW Security System

Anyone on the board ever do? I'll have to do it this week.

STORY -- I've been saving this until I get the car back, should happen Wednesday. My car was stolen early February, a-holes broke into my old car, found second set of key and remote, then drove off with my M3. :banghead:

Incredibly, I get her back a few days later, relatively minor damage, grill bashed in, hood bent, NOTHING else!!! Interior untouched, nothing. Could not believe I had her back, almost broke down at the impound lot where the police had her towed. Sure you guys understand... NO WAY I'm finding another 99 with such low miles and in pristine condition. And plus I had just replaced her, see the Hurricane Isabel thread.

Anyway, Statefarm takes forever to investigate, blah blah, but finally done. I'm getting a new hood -- no swirls or road marks!! -- a new spoiler with the slat middle rather than mesh, and while in there I'm having the Hellas put in for the OEM.

Anyway, there is possibility crooks still have my remote and key. The key can be de-programmed, pretty cool huh? My remaining three keys will now be the only keys that start the car. But that still leaves the remote.

I've got book and an incredibly intricate procedure is described, wondering if anyone out there has ever done. And if so, how many times do I have to do it to ensure that the stolen remote doesn't work? Fine print says system can recognize 4 codes, so do I have to re-prog 5 times??

Yeah, that's pretty cool that you can de-program your remote. Are the instructions that complicated, or haven't you tried it yet? Have you asked your dealer for help? Wait, did you say you keep a set of M3 keys in your other car?

Probably not any more. Anyway, good luck.

Okay, I talked to my service manager. Supposedly, you need all the remotes to make it cancle one out. However, from what I understood, once you get a new remote, you can make it work for only thoes remotes alone.

Okay so you can't cancel out the lost or stolen remote unless you have it? Or if you buy a new one, can you cancel out the lost/stolen one?

From what he said, cause he was walking out the door so he gave me the quick version, was if you got a new remote, then you can use that remote and your existing one, minus the one that was stolen, to fully program the car, and that should cancle out the old remote. We were going to try later on, but we couldn't find any cars with both remotes heh

Ill get a more clearfied answer if need be.

But as edjy stated before, his other keys were blocked, so even if they had a working remote, with their keys, they couldn't start the car anyways, which is a plus in one way.

Dark, thanks for the legwork. And for being such an active new member!

Wow, are cars are funny -- you can get so many different answers to questions!

The booklet seemingly states clearly that the unit can only hold four IDs at once. So it I change the frequency 5 times, how could the stolen one work?

Next week my second remote will be in, and i'll pick up. Then we can play with it.

But -- See my post under "Rash", the keyless isn't isn't working now, so we'll have to sort out next week too. Bumming me out, everything else is SO perfect about her! :banghead:
