    Squeeky A$$ Engine!

    Hey guys,

I've had my 95 M3 for about a week now and I've noticed sometimes the engine is REALLY noisy at idle. Even more so with the A/C or Heater on! :banghead: I don't know what it is, but its soooooo embarassing just sitting at a light with the engine making all sorts of squeeky noises. I don't know if its just a belt or what, but its killin me! Any advice would be great on what may be wrong...I'll be takin' it to a shop soon. It needs a new coolant sensor anyways. Thanks a ton!

Yeah, mine does that too, but it generally goes away after running for about 4 minutes or so.

    Does yours persist?

Yeah, mine keeps goin. I had been driving for about 20 minutes and it was still really loud. I dont know if its just a worn out belt or what. I think I may be leaking something also...not sure...but going to have it checked out and everything fixed while I have money.

Maybe your belts are old/weak? Or prehaps your belt tensioners up front are staring to show age? All three of my idler pullies were old, wornout and noisey when I got my car, and I replaced them

Replaced my accessories belt with a pulley change two weeks ago and the squeeking went away, didn't replace my AC belt, but I imagine these two belts are most likely the source of the noise...

How loose is your ac belt? You shouldb't be able to move it more than about 3/4 an inch... does the squeeking increse when you turn the ac on?

Does it only do it at idle, not at higher RPM? If so I had the same issue when I bought my car, thought it was just belts, no biggie, but it was the tensioner, a bit more expensive than a belt.

I went to a Bimmer shop today and they said it may be rollers? Not really sure what that is, but I'm thinkin its the tensioner and/or belt, pullies...etc. They're gonna check it out for me and everything and see what it may be. I dont think it's anything major, the car runs perfect besides the squeeks. The sound goes away at higher RPM's, it only does it at idle. They also said they have a little package deal with a chip/intake/etc... for $950 installed that is supposed to add 40hp May have to look into that....

Sorry to did this up but did u ever find what was wrong. Mine is doin the same thing too. Mine started after the i did a coolant change and then rinsed it off with water. I thought the belts needed oil but then my frined told me thats the last thing u want on the belt because it will prob slip off. Its very annoying and embarassing do. Mine persists, when i'm at a stop light.

Sounds like you got coolant residue left on your belts.... that may make them squeek

Mine does it also. The whine goes with the engine RPMs. I got my ear down by where the sound was coming from and it appeared to be the alternator. I put a long screwdriver on the alternator and the other end in my ear and sure enough, it was the alternator. I've since had my diagnosis confirmed by the dealership. CPO will pay for all but the $50 deductible. BTW, the dealership guy said it's pretty common and that the alternator will work fine for quite a while. He said it's rare one actually fails. Most people just replace them due to the noise.
