Those who've done Ispection II, question

I'm about to have Inspection II done. I've been quoted $750 by my local stealership. I'm looking for some ammunition from those of you who may have paid less. Or is that a good price?

    Thanks!

Thats about dead on price wise, least for my dealership.

Well, if you are handy, you could probably do about half of the things by yourself such as oil change, spark plug change, etc. That would save you a ton of $.

Ouch! I just had my Inspection II done at a BMW dealership in January. I ended up paying $413.63 after my CCA discount. And yes it appears that they still did everythinglugs, fluids, gave me mm's left on brake etc.

That's exactly what they quoted me in the DC Metro area too. I'm considering doing some of the things myself or taking it to a mechanic my family has used for years (although he's not a BMW specialist).

Does anyone know if other mechanics (non-stealership ones) can reset your inspection light on the light?

You need a little tool to reset it. Looks like a mini JC Shark. Costs like $100 from Bavarian Autosport or your favorite BMW parts company.

you can reset it yourself if you buy that reset tool which I think is cheap.

I was told this place in the DC area is pretty good:

Thats what I paid a while back. I wouldn't do it again though. Go get all the stuff you'll need, print up the Inspection II checklist, buy a few beers, then take a few hours of the weekend to do everything yourself. THe 750+ I paid was no where near worth it.

Paid $667.73 at an independent here, with CCA discount.

Wow, that's a lot of $$$. My mechanic is way less. Probably why I can afford the car.

Nothing against Fairfax, who just treated me well, but I've never done service at dealerships, way too expensive.

VTRick, if you're willing to drive to Sterling VA, he can save you major money. Assuming no major problem found, of course.

                        PM me.

At what mileage is an inspection II required?

What are some of the items that are done?

I cant believe anyone would pay to have the inspection II done. $600-$700-$800?? Parts would cost around $100.00 and the labor is really easy going...put the car on stands and go ave' at it. Reseting the service lights can be done yourself for pennies...(a paper clip) http://www.geocities.com/odortiz/misc/zSI_reset.htm Simply bridge the appropriate terminals, and ground it for 10 seconds. Not only will you save money, but you learn about your vehicle, and in the future will save money knowing how things work, are located, and look undamaged/damaged.
