    Pondering Selling M3 for 1990 Corvette ZR1

    Ok...

    I want to sell my beautiful M3 for a 1990 Corvette Zr1.

I only need two seats and a trunk which the corvette has... other than that I'm not really biased for anything.

The corvette has alot more horsepower in a lighter body, (375 hp to be exact) and is alot faster and probably (this I'm not sure of) handles the same or better.

Basically I'm just interested in everyone's opinion.

A vette for an M3? I've seen and experienced vettes. They start rattling everywhere and falling apart ~ 4 years later. My girlfriend owned a 93. Sure, they have tremendous power, but there's much more to an M3 than straight line acceleration and 1/4 mile times. Actually, an M3 is pretty slow as far as that goes. The new V-8's and turbo charged 4 cylinders of nowadays can beat our M3's in a straight line. Remember that the M3 won the best handling car for more than $40k, and not because it had the highest skidpad or track time or whatever, but simply because it was the best overall athlete! A 1990 Zr1 doesn't compare.

But good luck if you decide to get it. They're the best that America offers.

I think it is a bad idea like everyone else on the forum...but have you driven the thing?

I think driving it will tell you if it is the right car for you aside from any other argument about maintenance etc.

The fit, finish, and build quality just won't be there. But if you just want something balls fast, then maybe it's a better choice.

          Up to you.

The Corvette would probably be a fun car. Maybe if you took a little break from your M3 you would fall in love with it again. We all get complacent with our cars after awhile. A few weeks ago I spent a week in St Louis driving my girlfriends Passat. When I got back in the M3 I couldn't stop thinking about what an awesome car it is. But if the M3 doesn't excite you anymore then I say go for the Vette and then you can sell your M3 to someone who'll really appreciate it.

I say you die tratior! :ratatat: :violin: <---- Funeral music....

              *grins*

Anyways, I wouldn't trade my M3 for any american junk, sorry, but I don't look too highly upon american made cars.

The only way I would get a vett is if someone handed it to me, and then I would sell it, and get another BMW.

This is absolutely true. I can't say for sure what it is like to own an M3 because i am actually in the process of buying one, but i have driven both cars hundreds of times because my job allows me to (valet). And to be honest with you, the M3 is a better over all car. Sure the vette may be faster then the M3 in a straight away, but trust me, once you hit the corners there is not comparison. PLus, Vettes rattle like a motherfu$%er. Serioustly, they are very loud cars, and very poorly built. I just drove a brand new Z06 that was loud and uncomfortable. it was very fast, but very uncomfortable to drive. Another thing is the M3 will last probably twice if not three times as long if you take care of it.

But the ultimate decsion is yours, i just suggest you drive the vette a couple times so you can get the feel for it, and which ever you enjoy driving more, there is your car. :chair:

Don't do it! Especially on an old vette. If it was a new z06 I might think about it just because they have had such great success on the track with the C5R. But the old vette is such junk and ugly.....just my $.02

Unless you want a collectible, I don't know if the ZR1 has a performance advantage over the last couple of years of the C4. They are awesome track and autocross cars (I doubt a stock M3 can come close to a well driven Vette in an autocross). Expect rattles though. For me, that is enough that I would not own one. Rattles take away all the fun IMHO. I don't know the pricing on ZR1's , but C4's are a good enthusiast's value...then again M3's appear to be a great bang for the buck too in the current market. I think the civility of the M3 combined with the real world balance is what appeals to me most.

no way on that deal man. M3's, though not as fast, are just great at the track (where they belong). Corvette's can be great too (with much seat time and effort), but nothing is as intuitive and quick to get accustomed to as the M3.

everytime I go to a driver's school (and I've been to events at 3 different tracks in multiple states, multiple times) they always tell the same story.

"We've never had anybody lose any sheetmetal at any of our events....that's not to say we haven't lost fiberglass!"

they're always referring to some Vette driver who hammered the throttle coming out of a turn and spun it into a wall.

Plus, Vette's just scream "I'm having a midlife crisis"

                          ///Mk

The Vette's performance is better than all the new vettes except the z06 and it does come close to that. The 1990 Corvette ZR-1 has 375 horsepower and rockets it through the qm in 12.8 seconds. The one I'm looking at is at an exceptionally low price of 16 grand, has 55,000 miles on it, and is black on black. Doing some more fact finding I found that the rear tires are 11 inches wide. Running with 315/35/17's... Very expensive tire. People sell this car for about 25 grand and that could be a nice thing for me if I could sell my car, buy this and then have my fun and sell it for 25 grand and with 25 grand I could buy a new m3, or an older one and put a turbo kit that I've always wanted on it.... the possibilities are endless.

I hear you can get brand new Z06's for the high $30's.... (They've been discontinued) That's where I would go...
