    Removing Convertible Rear Seats?

Anyone know how to do this? I have removed the bottom of the seat. I cannot figure out how to remove the backs. Bentley is no help either.

Backrest Cushions & Headrests. The Headrest appears to be integrated into the backrest cushions.

I know that the back cover just snaps on/off. You could try lightly tugging that to see if there are releases on that. Ill do some research at work tmrw and see if I can find some more rock solid instructions.

Thanks. I have pulled rather hard and now I have one side part way out, but the head rest remain in the seats and I can't seem to make any further progress. I have pulled many a rear seat in my past life as a car stereo installer, and I can not find the trick to these. Any help is appreciated.

running wires for the stereo. The available pass through has the main power lead on the passenger side, so I want to find another location more in the middle of the car. Also, I want to remove the factory sub and build a fiberglass enclosure where factory sub is.

I am getting ready to do some Car Stereo as well...

I found this searching, looks like a model without rear headrests, but you can see where they would lock into the metal of the car. I am guessing there are metal clips (hair pin cotter) like on other BMWs, if this is the case you just have to pull hard to get the headrests out.

If I get to this before you I will post what I find.

BTW: I am considering building 2 fiberglass enclosures, one on eac side of the car to fit directly behind the rear seat. (Ex installer here too). Can't wait to get back to fiberglassing :bugeye:

If you're running wires under the middle of the car.. why take the seat back off.. just lift the entire seat out of the car and be done with it.... :???:

I have removed the bottom seat cushion. Without removing the rear seatback cushion, I can only pass the RCA wires into the trunk via a hole on the passengers side. Also pasing through this hole is the main power wire for the vehicle. If I run the RCAs parralel to this power wire, I will most likely induce engine noise into the stereo system. I am looking for an alternative location to pass the RCAs into the trunk.

I have been looking at that approach as well. I haven't pulled the rear speakers and measured yet, but it does look interesting....

Ahhh. I was getting the mental picture that you were going to run the wires somewhere right down the middle of the car. So I was thinking you would have to pull up the carpet some, which is why I suggested just taking the seats out all together....

I was able to run my wires down behind the glove box, down the right side of the car under the carpet, along side the rocker. In fact, I believe I ran them next to the bat cable and I haven't heard engine noise.

It was just a PITA cause I had to remove alot of trim to do it heh.

Along side the rocker on the passenger side is also the battery cable. Since I have a lot of new wire to run (speakers, RCAs, Changer controller...), I will be pulling both front seats, lifting carpet and pulling the rear seats. I've done it on hundreds of cars before. I am just struggling with the rear seat.
