I wish I would have known about you before I put down around 2.5K on my system... But it does sound good....
Romh, you ask if I had spare Mids in the doors, yes and know. they are still in my doors but not hooked up. Finding a 3 way system that is a direct fit, aint all that easy. I have heard that quart makes a complete 3 way system spicifically for the E36 BMW.... But I hear it is over 1K for the sytem....
I put the Boston pros in the car, and component 6x4's in the rear side pannels, along with JL stealth boxes.... To me, it sounds awesome.... You really will not miss the mid speakers if you go with the Bosti Pro's and the sound, I promise u is so much better than what the HK sytsem offers u
$2500 is quite a bit, but hopefully that is with installation as well...but it doesn't seem you have done any custom work.
If you do leave the mids in the doors, you can hook up a frequency crossover capacitor on them. This way the amp won't be driven at a low resistance and the stock mids in the doors will be playing their respected frequency. If you do want more voice staged to your ear, there are custom kick panels that aim them to you from the floor...i think q Logic makes them...
