I realize I may become an outcast because of this thread. Am I the only one that finds angel eyes on an e36 ugly? I think it looks ricy It belongs on the 5-series IMO.
eh, I don't find them ugly...but I don't think they look right. what I think is funny is the people who bag on someone for getting different tail lights or whatever, saying stock looking is best, then suggest angel eyes. I would certainly spend the money on performance/safety improvements way before buying new headlights.
Matter of opinon really. I like the look.. duh, or I wouldn't have gotten them.
Wsmc: You can consider the euro lights a safety improvement over the US lamps. They get the light out to where its needed, and do it more effecently IMO.
ya, I can certainly believe that, and great lighting is something needed. I was more talking about the little kits to to put a lighted ring around the lights...
I might look into new bulbs someday, I just so rarely drive at night I haven't gotten to it. New SS brake lines are on the way though..just wish my pads and disks were ready to be changed.
ya, now Hid's are something I would like to have, they really put out the light. what's something like that cost? the conversion to Hids? couple hundred?
The kit is $300.00 + shipping for the 4,500k HID from umnitza. Which I recommend. Anything higher in color, 5k, 6k, 8k hids are for look, and you lose actual light output for color with them.
4,500k is about 3,200 lumens of light, about 3x brighter than halogens, and pure white in color.
any idea if they require more output from the alternator? I'm already over what I should be running with stereo crap, and try not to tax it with anything else. BUT, since I really like the car and plan on keeping it for several more years, I can see doing something like that NOW so I can really enjoy it.
Price seems reasonable for some real spotlights, even if I only use them occasionally.
They actually use less power than a halogen. 35 watts vs 55 watts.
The only thing you have to do is put a 10 or 15 amp fuse in the headlamp slots in the fuse box, this is to accommodate for the slightly higher current draw when you turn the HIDs on, which require 25,000 volts to fire. Then it drops back down to 12 volts.
My car had a HID kit in it for about 4 years before they died on me, I have seen no electrical issues caused from them.
Actually, the actual bulbs are still good, its the ballests that finally kicked.
dammit! you've just taken every excuse I had for not looking into them more. I really want to keep the car stock for resale value, but they're something I could get some money back later.
appreciate the info.
and if/when I do it, I'll make sure and take pictures to share :-)
speaking of which, I'm getting set to swap tie rods and fuel filter....should I post pics?
