Quick question on smog, i just went to do my smog that is required for change of ownership, missed the HC by like 4.. Figured i'd change the spark plugs and the oil since i'm due in about 300 miles and call it good. However i'm in California, our laws are over the top to say the least when it comes to emmissions. So i pulled the spark plugs and they are all perfectly clean, oil change i can still do, i was just wondering if there was any small tweaks anyone is aware of that can put me into the safe zone for a quick smog. I know i can probably get a new CAT and that would resolve the issue, but i was trying to avoid that for awhile longer..

..it could be just the testing station, they seem to be pretty inconsistent. Had a great running 86 toyota 4 wheel drive that didn't have a single problem. On one of it's smog years, took it to a big Chevron station and they said it didn't pass...but hey, they could work on it. I changed oil, plugs, filter..everything, AND added this stuff called 'Smog Pass' or whatever. It's a gas addative that guarantees you to pass (ok, don't see how they can guarantee it....but whatever) and took it back to a different place...passed and only had about TEN percent of the maximum....
I think you can do the oil, and you might try that stuff, available at most Kragens and such.....plus I'll second the 'getting it nice and hot' method'.

I just remembered that i had a additive put in my oil on the last change, i'm pretty sure that's what threw me over the top.. Not sure what it was, some clensing product because i was alittle low when i got back from picking it up and driving half way across the US.. I'm getting another oil change and i ran some fuel additive through it to help pass these hippy California smog regulations. Give it another run on friday, i really don't want to replace the CAT yet..
