Around 130 or so behind a WRX w/ a Boxter S behind me. We all three passed a van in the right lane on a 65 mph freeway...I would've loved to have seen the van-driver's face. I did get scared b/c I could've sworn that I saw a cop...I'm pretty sure 130 will land your a$$ in jail. Oooops

18 shouldn't put the speedo off. The wall height on the 18 tires are smaller then for the 17, so the whole wheel+tire is fairly close between 17 and 18. But if it was bigger, you would be traveling faster than the speedo (given it was accurate in the first place)
Governor
Not true, I was using 225/40 (taller then stock) tires on 18 inch wheels, hence me saying my speedo was faster then I was actually going.

99's (and all other E36 US cars) are limited to 137 or so by the computer. Unless he had a chip there's no way he hit 155. When I hit the limiter in my car the speedo says 143 or so - so their is a bit of error at high sppeds as well.
My E36 still has the original sticker on the top left corner of the windshield. It says that 137 is the max sustainable speed w/ under 3100 miles on it. I read that max speed w/o mods was 158mph or so...doubt I'll ever find out.
Question: 105mph, but I haven't really tried.
And Ravi...doubt I'll ever call shotgun in your car. You are a MANIAC my friend!!!!

I posted this previously. It was Memorial Day weekend. I hit 125 – 130 with the top down while racing the Porsche. We were coming down a bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway at the time too.
Kick @ss weekend though. Had my boys in town all together getting nutty. I’ve got one of my boys with a 2000 Porsche Carrera, one with a 95 NSX, and the other with a twin turbo 300 Z. Needless to say there were plenty of races throughout Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, and St. Augustine this weekend.
I must say, I truly pushed my M to the limits and hung pretty well with all of them. Of coarse they had more horses than I did, but there were plenty of back road cornering and dip in and torque out of hairpin opportunities. I only got mushy in one corner, but it was because I really pushed it too hard in one of the neighborhoods we were flying through at 3 AM (which was VERY stupid).
The guy driving the NSX wouldn’t really step up, but my boy in the Porsche and I ran both of our cars pretty hard. It was a lot of fun. The guy in the Z bailed early from most of the parties, so he wasn’t around for the AM excursions.
My boy in the Porsche said, “I have an all new respect for the M3. You hugged my bumper the entire way, and the only time I pulled away was climbing the Intercoastal Waterway Bridge. That was VERY impressive!!!”
I also hit roughly the same speed while racing a Mit’ 3000, and this was with the top up and on flat ol’ 95 North between St. Augustine and Jacksonville. Oh and did I mention it was a chic driving the 3000. We had a blast.
