Thanks. And 1/4 mile?
My stock 95 ran a [email protected] I've heard of 95-99 M3's running as fast as 13.9 stock. It all depends on the driver and track conditions. Everyone is going to be all anti-M3 for a first car, but here's my theory...you're going to be a dumbass driver for the first year or so anyways wether you want to admit it, there's no such thing as a "good" 15 year old driver...so might as well get something that can actually handle your stupidity. I've always had decent handling cars and my first car was a mustang, it's not the best, but it's a lot more sporty than most people's first cars. The better handling car you have, the better chance you have of getting out of bad situations. The M3's rear is planted on the ground, so I'd say it's a safe car. Just a heads up..."RichKid" for a screen name isn't going to make you any friends...nobody like's a showoff. You aren't rich...your parent's are...so until you're making the $$$...tone it down a bit.

[QUOTE=richkid15]Thanks for the replies. Only 240 hp? So the difference in hp comes only from the difference in the VANOS? [QUOTE]
No No No
The only thing those engines has in common is the BMW name.
You ameraicans did not get an reall M car before the E46 M3 came.
In Europe we have had an reall M3 since 1993 with a 286 Hp@7000 rpms 3.0 ltr. Then the 3.2 ltr with 321 Hp@7400 came. When the E46 M3 came it had even more power at even higer rpms. 343 Hp.
The socalled M3 you have had since 91 or 92 is basially an normall 325 engine that are tuned up a bit. ALPINA are using the same engine in their B3 3.0 and 3.2 with more or less the same perfromance as the US M3.
My M3 Euro will does at present 13.8@100 but that is with an hell of a loss in power.
A well driven E46 M3 will do low 13@106-107 as far as I have seen.
But the M3 is not a 1/4 runner, its a perfect car for daily drive and the weekends at the track ( reall race track that is )
Parent mode on----
I have own 4 M cars and I can tell you 1 thing, they are not a car for a beginner, do not even think you are capable to drive this kind of car.....
Parent mode off---

No chance a stock e46 will run 12.6...not ever! They typically run 13.3-13.5.
And "Richkid" how do you come by making the claim that you know how to drive? The capabilities of an e36 M, albiet with a meager 240 BHP, generally surpass most of the people who drive them. Remember that you are on a forum with lots of people who autox or track their cars...ask them how much training/experience it took them before they thought they could make a similar claim. I have over 200K miles is two different M3's and the car's limits still exceed mine.
The good news is that you have an interest in a car that provides greater balance and driving percision than a mustang or camero. But if straight line performance is what what drives your preference than you probably really do want an american V8 based car. I would urge you to drive a well maintained 9 year old M3 and then ask yourself how it would compare to a 9 year old mustang...(then do an auto-x in both and tell me which is faster)

I have it on video actually. One of our members here Matthews ran it. I think his stock run was 12.8 though, I'll dig the vid out and email it to you if you like.

Matthews is a pro drag racer and was featured in an american tuner magazine racing his M3. He pulled a 12.72 or so there IN A MAGAZINE...so it's probably legit.
there are videos, slips, etc. proving this. There are still lots of guys on teh forum who don't beleive him though, so take it all with a grain of salt.
