    I'm NEW---just bought 96 M3

Well after losing my Mitsubushi 3000GT VR-4 in an accident. I picked up my new car. 1996 BMW M3. I know a lil about these cars.. whats the best way to go about upgrading performance and Cosmetic? Just wanna say a good hello to everyone too!

96 was first year of OBD2 which is harder to modify. The best mods to do on OBD2 are ones that do not involve ECU, such as mods that reduce mechanical drag and increase mechanical leverage. Examples are higher differntial gearing, Crank Pulley, Fan delete and etc like that. Intake and exhaust will help alittle but not as much as on a 95 M3. if you have the money i would just get the twin screw supercharger kit for $7k, otherwise just try and lighten the car and stick with those mods mentioned.

So, if im in the market for an E36 M3, ur saying I should get a 95 over a 96? Can I get more power from it or just the parts are cheaper?

95's are easier to mod than the 96's.. but the 96's came with a 3.2 vs 3.0.. i like the 3.2.. as for engine.. do what was said about.. crank pulley, etc.. also do the hfm with special ecu programming and a M50 manifold... then do some cosmetics such as velocity splitters and euro corner lenses..

Hey Purp, this is the Conforti cam package, right? What does that realistically give you?

            Thanks.

I couldn't disagree more, get the newest nicest m3 in the color and with the options you want. OBD1 can be overcome.

if you can, 96+ can be more reliable but in terms of modibility 95 you can get much more power for much less $$.

but it isnt like the 95 would be unreliable, right? just the 96 would be a little more so.

Agreed. The 96+ versions just seem 'nicer' IMO.

Sure they are OBD2, but thats not hard to overcome IMO.

What does it take to "overcome" OBDII?

I know this car, it's actually very nice. I know another guy who was looking to buy it locally to where the seller was and he didn't get it in time but went and looked at it after you bought it.

Said that it's in very nice shape with the exception of the rear seat but it has some pretty cool gadgetry.

                              Congratulations.
