cheers for the wealth of knowledge about Alpina, Viking

did u know Alpina is known more for their wine making ?

Thanks we have and have had a few ALPINA`s since our first in 1977. and yes I know they are very big in the wine buisiness. I think the largest in Germany or one of the largest.

Mr Bovensiepen has a taste for the good things in life.

BTW This is a pic of one of the most rare ALPINA, the B7S from 1981, it was the Worlds fastest 4 door limusine at its time.

It is build in only 60 ex and is even after todays standards a very very fast car.

    Some key figures

    330 Hp

    520 Nm Torque

    Topspeed +260 kph

    0-62 less than 6 sec.

    ENJOY

Wish I could find the pics. of a e-36 Alpina Wagon i saw for sale last November, it was very hard to pass up. 1996 Avus blue with black leather, six speed manual, and 286 h.p. using the 3.0 motor. The sleeper look of the wagon with all euro upgrades we don't get. I just could not find out enough information about the mechanicals and I figured alot of the parts are exclusive and more expensive than a m- series. If I can find the pics again I will post them.

The E36 ALPINA Tourings came in 4 version.

        1. B6 2,8 240 Hp

        2. B3 3.0 250 Hp

        3. B3 3.2 265 Hp

        4. B8 4.6 333 Hp

The B8 was made in less than 50 ex and is an fantastic car. If you can afford it, get it and you will never regret it.

To my opinion this was the last "real" ALPINA.

          Hey Chris,

I said you're a poser if your 130k car is an auto...not your 25k car. I can understand the need for an automatic daily driven vehicle, but when yoiu are buying a car for pure driving excitement?

There turned out to be a lot of very good info here in between my bickering.

A few points from a UK guy :

SMG is NOT an auto, it’s the same box as a manual (including the clutch part) but with hydraulic actuation and not manual via a clutch pedal. It has ‘auto’ modes but these still shift (and feel) like a manual change. You can also do ‘clutch drops’ (manually controlled in the e36).

Alpina have serious respect in the UK and a large following of enthusiasts. IN MY OPINION they don’t try to compete with the M’s but offer an alternative in the form of a luxury motorway car with awesome top end performance. My friend has an (auto) e32 B12 with a 350bhp V12 (one of only 5 RHD). The car is approximately 14 years old and Alpina quotes a top speed of 171+ mph …

            Alpina also put an auto in the 1990 - 1994 B12 5.0L e31 that has 350bhp, but put the six speed manual in the 1992 - 1996 B12 5.7L (416bhp).

I know, I was just kidding. I'd take a manual over an auto any day when I'm not on 1960. You only need 3 gears on that road.

Yeah, Alpina seems to be a pretty cool idea. Maybe it's a Euro thing....
