6 x 9 Rear Speaker Adapters???? Where to buy?

I'm looking to put 6 x 9's in the back of my car, but I can't seem to find the adapater plate for it and I need it having the basic sound system.... well what once was the basic sound system.

I just installed and in-dash DVD player and I want to have 5.1 Digital Surround Sound. I'm going to put the center speaker in the console's open space under the computer. After all this I think I will be a portable drive in theather.

So where can I get the adapter for the 6 x 9's?

Why do you want to waste time and money on crappy 6x9s??? You actually think you're going to get theater-quality sound w/ those? Drop kick that idea and just go w/ a pair of high-end 2-way 6 1/2"s in the stock location (i.e. Boston Pro or Polk Audio) for your rear-fill mids and highs, and either 1 12" or 2 10"s in the trunk for your bass. This is what I'm running, and my front stage consists of MB Quart 3-way (1" dome tweeter, 3" high-range driver, and 5 1/4" mid-range driver) satellites for the stock locations in the front doors and kick panels. All powered by a longboard PPI 8-channel amp (AX606.2), fine-tuned through a PPI 30-way parametric equalizer (DEQ-200), and equalized at the front through Alpine's BBE Surround Sound lightshow EQ (ERA-G320). Oh, and my signal source is Sony's CDC-710 (oldskool head unit, but I still love it, and besides, it controls my 10-CD changer in the trunk).

can you make 6.5's fit in the rear? Did you install them on the OEM "plate" or did you need to modify stuff?

      Thankx!

No modifications necessary, it was easy. Simply remove the stock speaker pod (I think like 3 screws), and then screw the new speaker directly under the metal plate.

Here is a link for nice wood 6x9 adapters. http://members.tripod.com/~HawaiiGuy/BMW_6x9_Adapters.html I have 6x9's and I am very pleased with them. I use them just as mini subs sending only low frequencies to them and everyone that rides with me thinks I have subs in the trunk. I think the trunk acts like a subwoofer box or something.

The comment about all 6x9's being crappy is ridiculous. :bs:

OK, perhaps that was an excessive comment by me...I apologize. I do acknowledge that there are some very nice 6x9s, i.e. Infiniti, however, since he was describing his plans for a rather high-end system, I figured I'd advise him on a far superior sound alternative.

Actually I have a very high end system. I use JL 5.25"'s in the kick panel, I've taken out the mid speaker and put a 4.0" JLs in their place. I had the JL Stealth Boxes but they weren't enough and so I got one 15" kicker. However I switched to two 12"s. Which means I have space for my rear speakers and I want to throw 6 x 9"s back there... but the 6.5 is a really good idea. thank you for that.

nope sorry. I got a jensen vm9510 from best buy. I actually work there so that helped a bit. Its really nice. tilts up and down and left and right. I really enjoy it but putting it in with the limited space behind the dash is a bitch. Took me forever to get it right. My amp went two days after I got it, go figure. So I had to take it all back out and finally I got to the source of the problem... which was mounted in my trunk lol. What is even funnier is that I thought something might be wrong with it because as I'm working on this suddenly the thing is shutting off and not turning back on. Actually it was just protecting itself cause my battery was low.

One thing I noticed about it that I'm not sure if I like is that it is very slow to read dvd's and cd's before playing. I guess thats because it has to decide if its a dvd, a cd, and mp3 cd, or something else. The damn system is even a TV Tuner... but I didn't feel like hooking that up. Don't see a reason for it. I'm probably just going to copy all my dvd's and put them in a case to keep in my car.

If you guys don't work at best buy check it out. Its $899 I think and grab that 4 yr performance plan for $120 on top of it. Its worth it.

If anyone wants me to do a detailed write up on this particular model let me know. I'd be more than happy to help you out.

Check out the bestbuy site with it on.

Seems like the easiest and cheapest way to get more bass without adding the weight of a sub.

I am really constantly amazed by how much bass they produce. I am only running a 60Wx4 amp as well.

I tried dropping a JL W3 10" in my trunk and you can barely notice any difference. The trunks of BMWs (and the total car in fact) are completely air-tight, very well sealed. The trunk itself is its own separate enclosure. (You notice how the windows push up 'after' you close the door. Thats due to the pressure inside of the car.)

At any rate, I'd go with the 6x9 instead. Forget the subs. They take up too much space and over-head - subs, the enclosure, the amp, etc etc.

AMPowerJ, do you think the bass will be pretty strong from the 6x9s without an amp? I was previously thinking about getting the Infiniti sub with the plug-n-play connector. Thanks in advance.
