I just had someone I met this past weekend recommend going up to a 235 in the front... I was just getting ready to committ to the Nero's only to find out that apparently, either Pirelli doesn't make that tire in a 235 OR Tire Rack doesn't stock it. What a drag :banghead: Any other recommendations in that price range? Reviews of this tire on the Tire Rack site have been really good, so I'm a little bummed about that.

Suggest widening your search -- see my earlier post. Toyo didn't list a size on their site, later found it elsewhere. Plus Tire Rack doesn't carry Toyo at all, as an example.

About those pictures. My digi cam is broken. All I have is my camera phone but I can't guarantee a good pic.

Hey thanks for trying! Two questions:

            1. 255x40 in back, and no problems, correct?

            2. 235x40 in front -- those are actually lower than the stock 225x45 in height, correct? My math shows the height dropping from 3.9 inch stock to 3.7 inch.

I'm wondering if 235x45 would fit, and fill up the wheel space better. With naked eye there looks to be space, but that's never a good judge.

Hope you like the Toyo's! eace:

I'm running 255/35-18s in the back, and my badboy is slammed to the ground on H&R DTM race springs without any fender rubbing/rolling whatsoever. In fact, it tucks very nicely.~

Damn straight it's tucked nicely! You're showing no gaps at all, and no problems? You didn't mod anything, use spacers?

What size fronts you running? Is the car lowered that much due to springs, or did you upsize?

                Sweet trunk lip, BTW.

No mods, no spacers. I'm rolling 18x8.5 fr with 235/40-18s and 18x9.5 rr with 255/35-18s. The H&R springs dropped my car about 1.75 inches up front and 1.25 inches in back, and my Koni adjustable sport shocks are set at maximum soft for the most dampened ride on the streets. Regarding the lip spoiler, yeah, it's actually the one off the E46 M3. Back when they first came out in 2001, everybody has his mom with an S4 got them put on around here, and since I never liked the big bulky E36 M3 wing, I decided to follow suit.~

                    1) Depends on the wheel, tire, and suspension setup. You might have to roll the fenders.

                    2) Why run a taller tire? It will offer less steering responce, more sidewall deflect.

                      Thanks SG, responses below:

                      1. Thought we had established via this thread that with stock rims and stock suspension, 255x40 would fit. That's not a given?

                      2. Basically to fill up the wheel well w/o buying 4 new 18" rims, and still getting a better steering experience than the stock 225x45. Not valid?

                        1) didn't know you were stock, yes they will fit then.

                        2) I would do the 235/40, its not that big of a difference.

Keep in mind that steering response has as much to do with the relationship of the front and rear tire widths as it does to just increasing the front width. In other words - increasing the front width (from stock) will give you better grip and will reduce understeer, but increasing the rear width will reduce a lot of this effect.

SG_M3's suggestion of the 235/40 size is a good one.

                          Good luck.

Going up tire sizes on both ends doesn't help the problem. The car needs more front end grip than rear. I still run 245 rear tires on the street.

If lowered you will need to roll the fenders to fit 255's.

yok avs 255/40/17 fit w/no mods. car is on coil overs and stock dual spoke wheels.

Speaking of front end grip....Sean, can't more front end grip be dialed in by lowering the front?

When I had the front jacked up for gravel road duty the car was a pig, once I dropped the front a couple of rounds it felt way more balanced. I am going to borrow some scales and see where it is now. wonder where the bias should be?

do I want a 50/50 distobution? is that acheivable?

yes, lowering to a point, will make the car handle better. But below where the control arms go parallel to the ground it gets crazy bumpsteer.

Are you going to corner weight the car? You want the diagonal weight to be equal, 50/50.

255s on the rear stock wheels on a lowered car? hmm...i roll my original Michelin 245s, and my car is slammed to the ground, and there is absolutely ZERO clearance, like maybe a finger nail...so i can't imagine a 255 not tearing the crap outta the inside of my wheel well arch, yikes!
