I just did an oil change. I put Mobil 1 0W-40 in my engine... I'm not sure if I should add this now or wait till next oil change... anyone?

Lucas products are for older hot rod chevy cars and etc, i personally would never cut a $1 corner just to use inferior product. VACmotorsports recommends Rislone and thats why i used it b/c they know their stuff. Rislone worked, i don't see why yall are trying to cut corners for a buck or two.

I've heard very good things about lucas products and never heard of rislone... So I think its understandable that people are interested in the Lucas products. Still... I've never used either and since I'm hearing good things about Rislone I'm going to try it.

How long did it take to work through the engine and quiet the ticking?

not very long, after driving around for 5 min and it was gone. sometimes if you dont' drive car for a long time to where all the oil collects again in the oil pan it may take a min again, but usually its very very quiet. people at the dyno day commented at how quiet my car was running b/c you couldn't even hear it from outside.

I hate reading these posts after you have already put "Restore" in your engine.... well it hasnt died yet...but i will say on cold start up it seems that there is more ticking but once it heats up it is quieter than before?? the car seems like it has same compression? but i am pretty sure i have never had compression problem.......

i think that the FEDs really piped down on these oil companies ...so anymore you should be ok using these products............ i have beard both the good and the bad of all items but ........ every car is different so..... i will have to experience it on my own to give my opinion......... be good and either way whatever you do ....... you will learn from it...... nothing is guaranteed

I have 140k on my 1996. Do you think there could be any negative effects adding this to the mobil 1 I have in the car? I was reading on their website and it said

"there is every likelihood that Rislone Engine Treatment will increase the consumption of oil in high mileage engines."

Am i looking at the right product? Seems risky maybe, my car runs great, just somethign about that noise gets under your skin.

                  Great post tho!

                    ok...what is Risoline?

Do you mean Rislone? I have heard of Rislone, not Risoline.

I asked my mechanic about it and he said don't use it, he said it doesn't fix anything and could cause harm to the engine. So use at your own risk, it isn't worth it.

It is Rislone, and they do a bunch of oil products. You can add it when you are down a quart, or at an oil change. All it does really is increase the thickness of your oil. I have tried Rislone and it seems to quiet the engine a little, but I have heard to just increase the wieght of your oil. Personally, I think I will keep my 10w-30 and just add Rislone at the end of the oil change.

sorry i cannot type, its Rislone. not Risoline. I have not had any problems then agian i have a brand spankin new motor so its hard for me to say. I am running mobile 1 5w-30 (which is pretty damn thin) and rislone and tick is drastiscally reduced. over the long road trip i went on this weekend after the car had gone a bunch of miles i couldn't even hear the tick when i stopped at the gas station. it was pretty amazing, i do have about 1.5 quarts in there though, (1 quart plus the add-anytime formula which is about half quart).

But I gave some Rislone/Risoline/Riceoline to the dog!

I don't know about putting this stuff in the M, but I dropped a quart in the Rodeo last week when I changed the oil, based on this post. The Rodeo, apparently about 98% of Rodeos with the 3.2, has a valve ticking sound that makes the M sound like it's not even running.

Obviously different car/motor/problem, and while it seemed to quiet it a little, it didn't fix it or make it go away completely.

I'm with some of the others here on this stuff. It's one thing to try and hide a problem on my snow car but not the M. I don't want the problem hidden in the M, I want it fixed.

On my e30 the previous owner added Prolong to the engine oil. Car worked fine for a couple years, then i got it. I noticed that it had started to become alot louder. Took it to my mechanic and all he had to do was look in the valve cover to see that there was a problem. After stripping the whole engine it wasfound that the oil had turned into jelly around various part of the engine, most importantly the pipe that sprays the oil on the cam. It was deduced that it lubricates moving parts pretty well, but turns into jelly in non moving parts. A new cam and $1500 worth of repairs later, its running sweet, but **** that was unneccesary. :banghead:

Interesting...I just saw the Prolong infomercial the other night and they were putting Prolong in an E36 M3 engine. Of course they made it sound like it worked miracles. Thanks for the first hand info.
