My friend is going to buy the new Altima SE-R (against my advice). He claims that once he has it he will be able to smoke my 98 M3 coupe in a race. AS far as engine work goes my car is stock (so far). My specs are HP=240 Torque =239, with a 5 speed manuel trans. The altima is a 6 speed trans, with 260 Hp and 251 Torque, but looks to be heavier. I think I could beat him. What do you guys think??
But race him and confirm for sure.

Exact same thing I was thinking.
yep, I suppose the stereotypical bmw owner would pound his chest and get involved in some stupid juvenile street race to see which car can go faster in a straight line. That's much better than just appreciating the fact you have a nice car and not worrying about some jackass out to prove something.
take both cars to a roadcourse and see.

Sorry, but your friend is a freakin idiot. Sounds to me like he's just buying the car to beat you. He's setting himself up for disappointment. That Nissan will depreciate by at least $7000 just driving it off the lot.
If you lose, I will have no respect for you! Ok, I'm just kidding, but really, I wouldn't even race a Nissan. Who gives a crap?
The M3 has so much appeal in other aspects than mere speed. The smooth tq curve, excellent brakes, superb handling...I better stop before I have to run to the garage and drive mine. Oh, wait...one more...The symphonic roar of the engine is my favorite. The M3 doesn't have to scream. That Nissan will sound like it's dying if it's punched from 0-60, whereas your M3 sounds like the german sports car it is. It's not a drag car, but it is the "Ultimate Driving Machine".
