gotta go with what people are saying: this guy is obsessed with beating a car that is 7 years old...shows respect for the M. There are tons of cars now than can keep up with the M or beat it...so what?

I beat 350z's when I was stock :nixweiss: so I don't see any problem with an Altima, I don't think it will even be a drivers race! Nissan with exception to the Skyline GTR do what all other Japanese car manufactors do here in the US. They over estimate the hp levels compared with BMW which clearly underestimated the E36 ///M3 hp. Ever race one of the new 240hp Accords? Don't make me laugh! As I mention in the forward I beat 350z's when I was box stock and if you look at the spec they tilt way toward the Z. Now that I have a few mods it's not even a drivers race. I would put money on it to make it even more fun.

I disgree with that....BMW's hp estimations were on target...hp is not the only factor in acceleration. you have to take into account weight, gearing, ability to hook up at launch, etc.

Hire someone to rape your friend.

Once he learns the meaning of the word rape, he will learn not to:

            A. Throw such a nasty word around like that.

            B. Over estimate both himslef and his car

Sometimes extreme measures are necessary to set people straight. Sure he will be ****ed up and traumatized for a number of years, but after the pills and countless hours of therapy take their effect, he will be thankful for the life lesson that he learned as a result of your friendship.

and w/ the altima se-r & accord that you guys are talking about, those are FWD (i.e. very crappy launches).

then that was a bad driver. a 350z stock will beat an e36 stock in the 1/4 mile with good drivers in both cars, and thats a fact.

I've seen stock ///Ms dyno at 215wrhp on the same dyno 2 others with Cam Kit were dyno'd on the same say. One pulling the expected 240 plus and the other had a decrease. On a prior pull he had 242+rwhp on this pull he had dropped to 225rwhp. Most Lightly modded to stock E36 ///M's were pulling between 208-215rwhp that's only about a 10% drive train loss which would be very small to say the least.

I like the way you put that, its harsh but true.

will a Z better a 13.98 quarter stock? well motortrend had problems getting it faster.. and i had basically the same trap speed.. :chair:

edit: motortrend had a 14.1 on the Z

EDIT: 14.1 seems pretty good from what i've read. and i've seen guys run high 13s stock. same with e36 m3 guys...... car and driver has quoted the e36 m3 in the 1/4 mile doing 14.3 @ 98mph. same exact time as they quoted for an SRT-4. the 350z is 3322 lbs, but it does have 287 hp & 274 ft-lbs of torque to get a little gain on the m3 in the 1/4. both are equally fast, but it is pretty much a drivers race. and if you have good drivers in both cars, the Z will become the victor

I used to drive a 2003 Maxima 6-speed with the same vq35de engine (minus 5 horsepower)

you'll smoke him in every category (except rear leg room.)

EDIT: dammit, I keep replying to old threads..damn search function..

I went to the local drag strip, & raced a new 350Z 3 times.

The first run, I was just getting the feel of the track.... he got me, but really I did not give any effort.

The next 2 runs I smoked him harshly. My car, 95 CAI, CHIP, HFM, 46K miles.

I also drove his 350Z, and in order to get anything out of that car, I felt like it was ready to blow up.... Honestly, I always thought the Z car was something I wanted... ever since H. Shool... (over15 years ago) So I had a lot of respect for the cars. But now I know... they are not to be feared. At least not in stock condition.

The guy I beat at the drags, is now a proud owner of an E46 M3.
