Matt did you switch because the lack of quality in the Xtec kits? You must have just switched because I got my Xtec from you just a few months ago.

Why we switched is a matter of great contention at this point in time.

Suffice it to say, we're very pleased with ProLumen.

Sorry, jacking is when the topic isn't done. It was clearly done for 4 days, we simply bumped it.

This is the answer I received from Jim at Xtec, for what its worth:

Water in fogs is exactly the issue. For that application, the bulbs should

be the motorcycle type not headlight type.

I hate to say it, but it is going to be an ongoing problem and almost any

other bulb set is going to be worse.

Not 100% accurate, but yes, unless you are diligent it's hard to avoid.

                How? Ok.

                1) You have to drill your hole just so that the opening is barely large enough to allow the rubber grommet to cover it. Then you have to seal that rubber gromet with silicon.

                2) Then you have to mount your ballast in an area where they won't get water - this is more easily done with a ballast/external ignitor combo than a single ballast/internal ignitor combo.

                So, that's that

                  Interesting thread.

Ok. Let me interject some info.

Buzzing when trying to light is ALWAYS a short to ground. It could be the ground wire or the hot wire could have a nick in it and the power could be shorting to the frame of the light or the vehicle.

The best way to find out where is to observe things from different angles and look for arcing.

This problem is almost never the ballast although in extreme cases an external short will eventually defeat the internal power cutoff for over current.

So, you probably do not have a bad ballast. At least you didn't when you started. You probably have a wet or shorted bulb or a nick in your wiring. Whatever the problem, you have a warranty, please contact us.
