Yes, you can powder coat aluminum. However, it's more sensitive to temperature, so it's better to bake them at lower temperatures for longer amounts of time. I'm not sure what alloy SPC uses, but a knowledgeable shop should take care of you.

Why even bother changing the RCCA's? The aluminum ones aren't much lighter than the steel ones..
5lbs per side, unsprung.
Also, you hit a curb with the steel ones, you can kiss your super awesome powdercoated, reinforced, subframe goodbye. You hit a curb with the aluminums, you call SPC and get another one for $150.

Sorry buddy, it's MAYBE 1-2lbs per side and actually if I had to guess the aluminum ones are worse since they are solid. The steel ones are hollow but either one will trash your subframe upon a big impact.
Bobby, settle this for us. :lolhit:
I just had both in my hands last week, the steel seemed to be significantly heavier.

Either way, I didn't do it for weight. The steel ones have a major design flaw where the bushing presses itself out of the arm, and can only be "fixed" using some custom spacers. I'd rather have arms in there that don't need a bandaid fix to them, I bought the Alum ones for the same price that I sold my steel ones + the spacers, and Joe really needed my spacers for his car as he was putting it all back together. Win win for everyone.. Roland sold his arms, Joe got his spacers, and for no money out of pocket I have newer/better LCA's.

While the spacers r required, I wouldn't consider them bandaid. Seems to be exactly what is required, just a missed thought by SPC... now weigh them bishes and let us know. My vote JV > RH
I'm sure the steel ones weigh more, but I think Mr. Vit27 was saying the aluminum ones would be worse in a crash.
Anyway, I'd be shocked if someone could actually distinguish one arm from the other without knowing what's under the car.

Either way, there's nothing required to "fix" the aluminum versions, and Joe was in desperate need of my spacers for his build, and I found a buyer for my steel arms in a day, so I figured I couldn't go wrong... I'm sure there's no way the aluminum versions are worse off than the steel ones...
