    Updates:

    -Stoptech BBK has shipped

-All parts are finally at Proformance for powdercoating, but their powdercoater is out for 2 weeks on vacation, and it takes a considerable amount of time since most parts will be different colors so they need to change and clean the gun every time and shoot them separately... I'll probably end up just pulling the front end out now and redoing that all at the same time

-I decided since I was doing the BBK up front, that I might as well just go all out and finish the last thing to do on the car; rear brakes. I ordered rebuild kits, new pistons, new guide bushings, new nipples, etc etc. I'll either paint or powdercoat the rear calipers silver to match the front, and then rebuild them.

-I pulled the rear brakes out, but not without damaging one of the OEM lines. No big deal, as I was planning on replacing them anyway. Most places just sell the kits as a full set though, and I've already got new fronts with the BBK. Any thoughts on these?

i think our rears are 4 piece (2 soft hoses on each side)

      5 and 11

so check and confirm on your car and confirm you're buying the correct kit.........some E36s did have 2-piece rear soft hoses per side..........my car was 4-piece just like in the diagram.

ECS makes their own and they are DOT approved

        Bobby,

I'd either do new OEM or jump straight to Bimmerworld braided lines.

Rich - ECS sells "rear" and then "mid" lines for our car. Just cross referenced part #'s and that's exactly what their mids are... #5 in the diagram. So I can get the mids and the rear SS braided lines from ECS for $35 each, or $70 total... not bad.

Matt - why Bimmerworld? They only sell the 6 line kit, and you can't buy the rears separately. The ECS are SS braided also, but just with a rubber covering over them.

Just called Bimmerworld - they'll sell the rears alone for $60, either the 2 piece or 4 piece. Going to go home tonight and double check which mine are and then I'll order those from BW along with a Motive Pressure Bleeder and a few cans of ATE Type 200 brake fluid... Thanks guys!

I suggested Bimmerworld because I was pretty sure they would sell you a partial kit, and also because they make them in house and race with them. Since they've developed them in-house, the lengths, chafe protection, and mounting brackets are perfect, which can't be said about most braided stainless lines on the market (for any car brand). If things end up too short with stainless - hose pulls apart. If things end up too long with stainless - gets hooked by some random thing in the wheelhouse and gets ripped apart. It's really hard to do them right. That's why I said that OEM is also a good choice.

Sounds like you got it worked out!

Good stuff dude. I better get a ride around the course at Nassau when she's back together. BTW, you know you can borrow my bleeder if you don't want to pick one up...

Good info! I didn't know BW sells the rear lines individually. Perfect timing on getting that info :thumbsup2:

Thanks Nick!! You know you are welcome to take the beast out any time! :thumbsup2: And I know I've always borrowed your bleeder in the past, but now that I'm doing track days I'll be needing one to use a few times a year, and I hate to keep asking to borrow your tools :rofl3: I've got every other tool now, might as well just pick a power bleeder up while I'm at it...

Good stuff Joe, glad I could help (somewhat). I figured that since they're made by them in house that splitting up kits wouldn't be a problem, as opposed to if they just resold other manufacturers lines.

Yea my left rear brake line somehow shifted position and rubbed on the outter half shaft boot. Now I need to replace that line and the damn boot.

*edit* I already put a rubber line back in but since the rest is braided it would be nice to be consistent.

Wow, this is a great thread. Just re-read it start to finish.

Forum 10 is on fire lately. So much good info/DIY/etc. the last few weeks... :shiftdriv

:rofl3: No worries man. I've eaten my share of chocolate chip pancakes at your place, and had a nice place to stay that's infinitely closer to Nassau than driving down from CT and leaving at 6am.

As a side note, I finally got a CCA membership, so the $50 reg fees are a thing of the past.

BTW, Ben has already started trash talking about romping all over us on Saturday. Get ready to bring it. :thumbsup2:
