You wouldn't believe it if you knew what happened.

After the paint job, which I loved, the headlights were broken. The fog lamps and high beams no longer worked. Left directional flashed extra fast. When I looked under there, the gray wire on one side broke off when I touched it (there are four pins). I also had the suspension clunk. The paint shop said they didn't do suspension work so I took it to Pep Boys across the street who had done a decent job. They couldn't figure it out and messed up my door handle fixing the latch (which broke after the paint job). So I went to another shop that recommended the same place that painted it. So I went back there and they took me to the sister shop. They couldn't fix the suspension (though it's improved now and I think a spring was sideways). New tires on the way.

BUT when I looked at the headlights which they said they fixed - I had said I wanted a harness to thread onto the (glass) headlights - but they Jury-rigged four wires - bypassing the four pins. Now there are lots of the same two-prong connectors that are grey and black - but the plastic covers on the headlight assembly for the wires are off because wires are now coming through. I just got my Bosch set in the mail and don't know how to install them because of what they did.

It gets worse - 1) the OBC is flashing "Low Beam Failure" constantly, even though they work. 2) When I turn my corner lights on, the headlights come on - there is no difference with first and second stage lights now. 3) The inner lights that are high beams but also low output normally no longer work at all. 4) AND... They forgot ALL four screws holding the headlights on. $208.00. Of course I found it Friday at 6:01PM when everyone was closed.

It's the second mechanic that forgot to put screws in, in one week. The other forgetting the single Phillips that holds the interior door pull on.

It reminds me of this Far Side Cartoon (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MzV3RagUU_g/TH_QAdD1KEI/AAAAAAAAAWM/PxBb_8dbFDU/s1600/School_for_the_Mechanically_Declined.jpg):

I must give credit where it's due however. If there is one thing auto mechanics have done extremely well over the years (in fact without fail) - it's to charge my credit card. They have yet to forget a single digit, expiration date or price.

The reason nobody but me touches my cars. Went to a Ferrari club event a couple years ago at Road Atlanta (FCA annual meeting). Was talking with a guy about that very thing, turns out it was Jon Shirley (former Microsoft CFO). He has a guy and all he does is keep his stable tip-top. Says "I can't trust anybody else". Has a 63 250 GTO, 58 250TR, Fangio's Championship Maserati in unrestored original running condition. Nice to be worth billions I guess. Really nice guy, I didn't know who he was, just admiring the 250 GTO and talking about getting a mechanic to work on the car. He took it out for a bunch of very hot laps.. Cool stuff.

millimeters helps. i'm running stock 245's with h&r sport springs and koni adjustable's with the rear tires slightly tucked. still have about 2mm of clearance to unmolested fenders and never rub. id get it aligned

Temporary fix would be to get some 15mm rear spring pads from Turner to raise the back end up slightly. This doesn't cure all but will probably eliminate the rubbing. You still need to address the alignment specs of course.

I haven't forgotten the photos. It was cold and rained last weekend on our planned getaway and the car still has issues so I haven't taken care of minor things like rims and the stereo. She had seen nothing but rental cars since we started dating and it was her first time in the car but she said (after a 300 mile round trip to Austin) that she loves the car now.

And yes, Indy shop needed (or flight for camdinans3 if alignment doesn't work).

Great news: I found a new garage (Lucas Auto in Cypress, TX) and they fixed the headlights (which cost $460 to rewire - it was that messed up) and they installed the Michelin Pilot Sport tires and did an alignment and the car now has a good 1.5 inches clearance between the rear fender and tire.

The car handles like never before (finally).

Warning! H&R springs don't match Dunlop Durezza tires! That was the issue. It must cut it really close as some don't have that problem.
