Two versions of Diff?

    It seems this Diff doesn't have too much plays on the short splined shaft yet -- the bearing cover looks dry with no oil leak. There is no need to change the bearings if the races and rollers look smooth. Just wash the bearings with gasoline, let dry then lube, and protect them from contaminated with dust/dirt.

      I might have lucked out as the LH output flange on my new V2 diff has about 75% less play than the RH OPF on the V1 diff in my car. Halfway tempted to slap a new cover (w/new bushes), fill, and install just to see what 3.62 gearing feels like. The case was full of fluid, was quite dirty, but absolutely dry on the outside.

      The bearings feel OK on the bench but we'll see what happens with weight/load applied. Regardless I still want to pull it apart as I mainly purchased it for a learning experience.

        What part of NE are you in? Many years ago I met a guy with an E36 M3 and E46 M3 that was doing diff swaps and stuff. I think I sold him a disassembled E46 M3 diff. I'll have to see if I can dig up his screen name...I think it was from Bimmerforums.

          Lincoln, southeast portion of the state. This one came from MpartsWW however.
