Just a warning: drilling out the bad threads is not a trivia job -- expect the drill bit be jammed every few seconds using hand drill. You don't want it jammed and break the bit in there, because it is not easy to drill a broken drill bit.

It's best to use a reamer in this situation as drill bits are not designed to cut on its sides but only the tip.
