    SMG Compression springs

Doing a manual swap and want to do the compression springs "while I'm in there". I bought 3 from ECS tuning, though after admittedly a brief look at the RealOem diagram, can anyone do a compression spring for dummies for me on this pic and photoshop a nice red arrow to mark where they are located?

I'm fairly confident someone has been in here before. But not sure if they swapped the clutch etc, the bell housing was rather oily on the inside, also the 10mm bolt from the engine to the BH was missing. But this could all do with me suspecting this car has had an engine swap earlier in it's life.

    Regards

      Thanks for your reply,

Looking at the DIY and the RealOEM diagram it looks to be 2, 6, 9 &15?:

I was quite beat up last night after 3 hours of dragging the gearbox out so didn't have a super close look, but when I'm looking at the 2 deep "wells" above the clutch slave cylinder they just looked empty, if that's where 2 and 6 live I was expecting to easily spot the lock ring but as I said I didn't have a super close look last night.
      # 16 screws out?
And spring 9 lives behind a cover that is just pressed on?

      Thanks

This guy replaces number 15 and 9.

It seems you have not researched enough about the conversion. #2 and 6 only can fit into the holes (which are non-existence on SMG box) after the bell-housing is machined. Unless you are using the detent-less after market shifter, the bell housing has to be machined to have the new holes and add big spring and stop pin inside.

Ah I see, thanks for that. I have done a fair bit of research but I must have missed that 2 & 6 were only relevant to BH machining conversions. Remote life for me so I did the easy way of using a self centering shifter so I guess that's one less thing to take care of Would be way too much hassle and down time to remove the BH and having it machined if I don't absolutely have to.

Then don’t touch the bell housing as this will interfere with the self centered shifter.

IIRC, there are 4 springs, 1 for each gate. The two bigger springs are for R and 5-6. I would buy or rent the drift pins which makes installation much easier.

                  I replace 9,15 & 17 on every SMG to 6MT conversion.
