Can you remove/install Diff front bushing 21mm bolt with 3/8 drive?

21mm socket is an odd item, but my 3/8 set has it and my 1/2 set has none. I had broken a Craftsman 3/8 drive once when trying to remove the wheel lugs that the tire shop over-torqued them. The Diff bushing 21mm is spec around 150 ft lbs and I think 3/8" drive is marginal.

I will need to rebuild my V2 diff with the clutch plates causing the clunk noise when took off from zero -- clutch plates chattering issue. I either shim up the side-gears or replace the clutch set with Racing Diff parts.

You get a 17,19,21mm

I’m sure you can if you get a long handle 3/8 drive and a cheater bar, apply some penetrating fluid before hand

I would highly recommend getting a 1/2" 21mm. Most 3/8"s won't hold 150 ft lbs. I would certainly not trust a modern craftsman. While something may not break, there's a good chance it will. Why deal with the headache when Lowes has the socket?

Great advice.
I might buy their clutch set but will not use the spring shim; I will select and get my own shims.
But I need to make the tool to open the carrier first. I don’t like the idea of welding 6 small rods around a barrel as the tool, as the rods spacing are not well controlled.

I got some good advice long ago to buy whatever tool is needed for the job even if you don't think you'll use it more than once (you will.) 20 years later and I have quite a collection but still find myself buying something from time to time.

My strategy the past several years has been to buy quality if I think I'll use it often or just go Harbor freight if not. I've been really surprised at some of the HF stuff.

My harbor freight jack is still working after 14 years. Not all crap.

They make the only wheel chock that actually will stop my trailer and get stuck under the tire if I forget to remove it. All others the trailer just rolls over it. $10.

The right tool for the job makes it so much easier to complete. I agree that 3/8 sounds a bit weak for such a big and tight bolt, I'd definitely invest in either a set or a single 21mm socket.

Oh yeah man craftsman was leagues better than horror freight. Shit was made by armstrong, western forge and pratt read. Was good shit back then rip.

Right tool for the job is what I practice and preach. Then again if it's anything more involved I leave it to the professionals at eas.

Also 1/2" for a 21mm without question.

I dare you to break a HF pro ratchet. I have my share of snapon and original craftsman but there are absolute gems at HF and also a ton of junk I'll give you that.

Their tool boxes in particular are incredibly hard to beat. You can buy 4 or 5 to 1 snapon and tell me you need better quality. Garage Journal forums have some sweet HF toolbox/workbench builds over there.

I agreed, that you need to know which is junk and which is OK. I bought the 3" low profile floor jack for my 3" low Citroen SM, and so far no issue after 4 years, and good built too.
