I remember when BMW had devalued new s54s during the rod bearing fiasco to $6k for warranty purposes.

I should have bought two, or three.

Cars that appreciate are like brokerage/retirement accounts that are fully insured 😀. I started buying 911s explicitly for this purpose a few years ago as in addition to the reliable appreciation I enjoy seeing the cars in my garage and driving them on occasion.

I fully believe there will be 200K E46 M3s in the coming years. All signs indicate the E46 will be "the" classic BMW of the era. Luckily for those that don't want their cars to appreciate too much, the 200K cars+ are typically rare low mileage garage queens.

Collectors are the worst, you can look at the Porsche world as an example. These guys(collectors) are the cheapest a$$holes out there. Old cracking tires, deferred maintenance, leaking gaskets, etc. In the 930 world you can see the enthusiasts chasing oil leaks while collectors, "if it doesn't leak, it must be empty". This is said just because every collector is looking to make a buck, they don't want to be putting extra money into the car since it cuts into their profits.

while briefly considering purchasing a gallardo convertible I stumbled upon a facebook group of 6spd owners conspiring to control the market by coordinating sales so that no cars went to market in the winter time and no more than 1 or 2 went up for sale at a time in the summer.

when you buy a certain car, the community and culture definitely come with it.
