            Yeah, this has come up a couple times. The S65 short block (no head, etc) is lighter, but the complete engine is heavier.

            2005 IR/IR M3 Coupe
            2012 LMB/Black 128i
            2008 Black/Black M5 Sedan

              Hi,

              I watched the video and test is incomplete.

              Syfon "S65 block weighs less than S54 block afaik. Aluminium v Iron"
              BMW Marketing strategy is to represent this in a way you are left with the
              impression Alu is lighter. For sure bare block is lighter by whatever...but
              that is not the real weight ones the engine is inside the engine bay.

              Much the same is when I hear people saying that the S54 is higher engine
              than S38 and no one scaled it to find the truth.

              Right before the old forum shut down I made a post on this subject, need
              to re-do it.
