Any guesses what this noise can be?

Bought car 2 years ago w 80K, had slight ticking. Had my mechanic do valve adjustment, noise still there. Had valves double checked by mechanic's employee-no improvement, noise got worse/louder. Dropped off car at a local race shop, he found that valves were way out of spec and re-did adjustment. Still noisy, says might be a bent valve; only way to know is to send head out. Took car to dealer on ANOTHER shop's advice for oil change just in case wrong weight oil was used previously and put in Liqui Moly lifter additive because, what have I got to lose at this point...

-with exception of solenoid, all VANOS upgrades (oil pump disk, cam bolts, chain tensioner, S62 diaphragms, o-rings done
-valves properly adjusted
-all who have heard the car agree noise is coming from top and is not rod knock

any and all suggestions appreciated.

Bad lifter or bent valve? Very annoying getting the runaround.

Valve adjustment first and if it is still noisy after, one (or more) of the followers is developing a flat spot.
