Cover Column B (rear window glass trim piece) Replacement

I just sourced a brand new trim piece to replace the original that is quite the eye sore. I still have no idea how the original piece ended up in this state. Has anyone on here replaced this piece? I’m assuming with a heat gun, goo gone and some patience, I should be able remove from the glass. Thanks!
