            ...which is the item you might read about being opened with magnets and cleaned out with brake clean...

            Then there's the regulator and its o-rings and filter. I would say the "solenoid" job would include addressing these 4 items, though you wouldn't nec replace the solenoid itself if no codes or funny vanos behavior.

              Thank you, yes there is also a “valve body”.

              There is a difference in typical S54 vanos nomenclature, this has been used for many years.

              When you replace the plate you’re addressing the o-rings and pressure. Different type of vanos fix.

                Well, I am used to call the whole thing as solenoid plate when I told people to loosen or remove it (to release oil pressure) before trying to retard the cams. And yes, your are right that the term "solenoid plate" is not correct, but then the plate with O-ring should be called O-ring plate and not solenoid plate.
