LCI Crankcase Vent Hose vs the pre lci unit

Hi Guys
can anyone explain me the reason that LCI M3 get the vent hose with the electronic valve, vs the pre facelit models have only a regular piece of pipe
also can i get rid of it without any engine codes poping up?

I’m planning to do that (well, run a catch can that I was using on my 02 on the 05 I bought recently). You would also at least have to plug the hole on the air rail (or get an early model air rail)

in that case i will be ditching that POS and replacing with EU air rail as im going the velocity stack conversion route anyway
