SSV1's - stock exhaust studs too short?

The Supersprint V1's are finally going in. Having decided to heed all the warnings about the dangers of trying to replace the exhaust studs I just left mine in as none broke and everything came apart easily. I am now putting it together and the studs are just a whisker below the top of the new nuts when tight. This is a bit worrisome. Anyone else experience this?

And yes, I accounted for all six of the old gaskets.

    Thanks.

I put longer (N54) studs in thinking it was necessary but it was not, in fact it made installation harder as I had have the header flanges further from the head in order to line them up on the now longer studs and as we know there isn't much space in there.

Thanks. Now I just need to extend the O2's to reach the SS cats.

FYI, recently did this myself and added some lessons learned for extending the o2 sensors here: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...t-installation

As I found out and posted about during my s54 build, the stock exhaust manifold studs are too short to correctly secure the ssv1 manifold to the head. You can replace them with the longer N54 exhaust manifold studs. I utilised a local fastener store and cut all 18 studs to the required size.

Well, I am committed now. I am pretty confident the locking portion of the nuts are well engaged, but if it leaks I will just have to take it all apart and go your route.

Keep in mind, we're not talking about one bolt or nut, and certainly not internal engine parts. There are 9 nuts holding on a bank of headers.
