Got it. So as not to thread jack, there must be a thread somewhere here that shows how to get to 370-ish without going forced induction, yes? I would imagine intake, catless headers, cams and a tune would get one close? I'll troll through the Dyno thread. In the meantime, if you can point me somewhere that would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

Yeah, he was just all the things, in their best output form
SS V1 stepped headers (not just rando catless headers)
      SS section 1
I forget section 2 and muffler
      pullies/aux fan delete
      CSL airbox
      CSL engine management
      dyno tune
      290/282 Schrick cams
      84000rpm redline
and then with vs without the dinan TBs

Looks like cams and a tune would get you most of that. Lift and duration are what they are. Pulleys can't hurt. Looks like no further driveline alterations are necessary, which is good news. Credit to forged internals from the factory...

Interesting, would have expected more like 10hp. Guess it was already breathing well enough for his configuration and limitations.

What's the consensus on the Dinan intake? I have a complete kit with the IAT relocation I'm thinking of throwing on the car.

              I’ve never seen a pure before/after dyno.

… any chance you’d do one?

Would be interested in your take. I bought a used one and sold it on, the install was more complex than I thought. It's more than just the IAT relo.

A quick trip to the CarBahn site shows limited products for the E46 and eye-watering prices. His new shop seems boutique to me. He did an interview with BaT last year, talked about
                staying busy.

Related question, are there any off the shelf CARB legal tunes that are worth a damn?

I can't imagine so, not with the advancements made in the last few years by individuals that aren't going to spend the $/time needed to get certification. Half of the best tuners aren't even in the U.S.

Guess that is relative to each person about “worth” for the time/money spent for one that’s CARB legal.

On this forum and compared to what’s out there now (not CARB legal) think many would think no.

That's what I figured, so would there be anything worthwhile that you can easily go back to stock with come smog time? I definitely do not "know a guy"

I would define "worthwhile" as meaning you make some power over stock with bolt ons

Well, hands down the best thing you can do to this car is remove cats and relocate to sect 1 ala euro m3. That doesn't require a tune, though you could get one and that would not stop you from passing smog.

As long as you can get the monitors to go green/ready, you're fine. I pass smog with Supersprint v1s and HJS in sect 1 on factory tune.

You can also do whatever mods you want, and get a tuner to force the monitors into ready state.

You really cant see anything with the heatshield and plastics installed. If the tech knows how to rotate the front wheels to see right above the reinforcement plate, they'd be able to see that the big cats aren't there.

I do take off my airbox for smog, however, as that is very obvious. It's also my bi-annual time to clean the filter, polish the CF, inspect things, etc.
