    Vanos test information

I've recently replaced my vanos with a second hand unit as the original was not making high enough hot oil pressure...

I did not change out the seals for new beisan ones; I did however use the exhaust piston from my other vanos which has new beisan seals fitted to it with 100 miles on them, and there are no other seals in the exhaust bore...

I did a vanos test when installed.

With okay leak figures... 2.5 inlet and 3.1 exhaust

Then removed the vanos and sent the oil disc for drilling.

Replaced the accumulator (with a similarly crappy second hand one)

Then ran vanos test again and got the following results?!

Failed Once: 6.2 inlet, 3.8 exhaust

Then passed with higher figures than the original test: 4.8 inlet, 4.4 exhaust

Ran two more tests and it failed again then passed
So what exactly are the leak figures? And do they only relate to the seals in the unit? I.e. will refreshing them reduce the leak numbers...

I ask because the exhaust leak numbers are still high? And that piston has new beisan seals on it?

    Solenoid pack has no issues
Solenoid valve block is also clean and clicking open and closed easily
Valve block plate has new beisan seals too

In my opinion you have weak seals. Re do them and be very careful when installing to not mangle them much… drive for a good 150 miles or so, then test.

the other leak path is the solenoid valve body, but you said you cleaned it very well, in this application the solenoids are not in contact with oil so they don't have seals that can fail like the S62 ones.

if someone can lend you a solenoid body and test it would be best so you can rule that out first as is easy to swap. It could also be that your solenoids are weak, but you have healthy response times, so I feel your solenoids are ok.

if another body solves it theb you may just by a new one with the pack foe 800 new and move on.

    keep us posted
