    -20’s broke my M

So, in the last 2 weeks, lows have been in the negative 20s and the highs have been single digits. Yesterday was the first day to make it above freezing. Went out to the garage (unattached and not heated) and discovered a puddle under passenger side bumper. Looks like water, but feels oily. Closer inspection shows something puddling on the belly pan. Looks like it might be dripping around a sensor on the lower hose just before the radiator. I don’t drive it in the winter and it’s been in storage since the summer of 2020. I’m guessing the cooling system froze and something cracked. I’m hoping it’s at the radiator and not the engine. Any gurus have any insight as to what to look for? I’m planning on a full cooling system refresh along with rod bearings and vanos lock down All at the same time, which is why it didn’t make it out of storage last summer. THANKS!

I hope the coolant didn't freeze which could crack the engine block.
To do: drop the plastic pan, fill up the tank with tap water and see where it leaks out. Hopefully it's a cracked plastic part and not the block. Don't forget to drain the coolant/water out before it gets freeze again.

      Windshield washer fluid. Maybe?

On coolant, why wouldn’t a freeze plug prevent the water in the block from freezing, assuming it was not properly mixed.

Not prevent coolant freezing, but the plug popped out first to prevent a cracked block.

I didn’t see the OP say anything about a freeze plug and right side is where the washer tank is.

good luck op. I hope it’s just the washer tank.

likely your lower rad hose coolant sensor seal

Lots of plastic bits in the coolant circuit.
Trace the puddle straight up since the car has not moved.

It’s pooling on the belly pan, then dripping on the garage floor. Looks like it may be dripping from the sensor. Can’t really see a lot w/o taking things apart.

not aware of a freeze plug. Replaced window washer system last summer. The puddle isn’t blue and it’s collecting in the belly pan first.

Thinking this or the lower radiator plastic is what I’m hoping for. I’ve got a complete refresh kit including water pump and radiator. Was waiting to tackle everything at once.

The same thing happened to me and it was my water pump. No signs of leaking, I parked it for 2 weeks then BAM, coolant everywhere.

I thought this thread was going to be about how 20" wheels broke his car and I thought hmmpf, that's too big for this car anyway!
