So we had about 4 seats sitting around the house when i got my M3. The first three did not fit. I finally pulled this Graco out, and amazingly, the base sits perfectly inside the rear seat bucket, and it was just short enough to fit under the head rest. Worked PERFECTLY.....sadly i dont remember the model number, and i cant figure out which of the many E46 M3 forums i posted more details in a couple years ago.

Here is a size reference for the Safety 1st seat linked above in the back of the M3. If you'd like, I can also flip it to rear-facing and show you the space/seat positions.

    I have this Diono 3RXT: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083F5W34S?th=1

It fits pretty well front facing though rear facing it is a little tall. However it will work well rear facing if you move the passenger seat a little forward.

I like it because it's not very bulky, fits perfectly in the seat pan, and built with a steel frame. It is around about 30 lbs so probably not a good seat to be moving in and out of the car frequently.

I was once certified in child seat installation (it's a real thing), and there are a few things to consider when you are choosing rear or forward facing. Generally, it is recommended you do not turn the child forward facing until they have outgrown the rear-facing weight capacity of the seat in rear-facing configuration. It is the safest possible position for crash safety, to protect their neck and back in an impact (unless you want to give them a HANS device). Ultimately you need to make the call that fits for your family, I turned our seat around at around 18 months.

I don't think there are any rear-facing seats that work well in the e46 without compromising the driver or passenger seat position. I have this Safety 1st 2-in-1 for my e46 because it does everything most of the other seats do, was affordable for a second car seat ($88) and it doesn't weigh a lot (only 15lbs) which makes it the seat we take on flights if we need to rent a car on the other end. It also claims 3-across seating is possible, though I've never attempted. We also have a Britax One4Life which is a beast of a seat (weighs 30lbs), cost $300, and serves as the main roadtrip seat, but honestly I don't see a ton of meaningful difference between the two. I would never try to fit the Britax into the M3 rear seat just because of sheer size.

I'll try and get a picture for you of the Safety 1st seat installed in my car for you tomorrow.

Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat, Ride Rear Facing Longer with Extend2Fit, Spire https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019EGMGNE...0S623JC6AB772P

This fits really well. It slips right in behind the sit and then I just go in from the other side to put my kid in. It's an awesome car seat though it has increased in price about 25%

I believe kids don't forward sit until like 40 pounds.

I like Diono they're the only company that can claim three seats across.

It's based on weight, not age generally.

I’ve been able to fit a chicco convertible seat in the back. Front Pass leg room is a tab compromised however. Forward facing is fine. Think they type of seat is as big as it gets

I recommend a seat pad so it doesnt leave prints on the leather

started a topic Child Car Seat

    Child Car Seat

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well. I have been working like a dog and living life since the original forum died. I'm here with a really boring question, frankly.

Does anyone have a child car seat they recommend for the back of the M3? I currently have a 15 month old that is outgrowing their infant seat with detachable dock (amazing convenience for coupes by the way) so I need to move to a bigger, fixed rear-facing car seat unfortunately. Any help would be appreciated. Sometimes I take my kid and dog in the M3 on days one of us isn't taking them in the suv. It's not terribly inconvenient for a day or two a week but I need something that can mount in one of the side seats, not center, so my dog has room to take a short ride as well.
Working...
