How do you buckle them in? With my pole positions, I can’t even get back there with them all the way forward lol.

I'm using the factory slides-- they have more than double the travel of the Recaro slides. So, I just slide it forward, kneel on the floor, and buckle her in.

That said, since we moved to 3 point, she's been self buckling-- huge quality of life upgrade for me

Wow - you really did went out of your way to get one! I was always wondering why Recaro aren't sold in the US and if it was not able to meet some regulation or something to that end?

nhtsa did some testing on the seats and said the the top tethers broke in an accident using their standardized dummy, recaro said their standardized dummy was too heavy and their instructions said if a child is that weight to not use the tether and instead use the vehicle seatbelt to secure the seat

after some back and forth recaro gave up on selling baby seats in the us altogether

Yep— I never used the tether.

this story really intrigued me back when it happened so I had to look up the backstory again

it was a pretty big oversight for recaro to either not know or not take the nhtsa standardized testing seriously. then they appealed and said hey we've got language in the manuals that covers/exonerates us which the nhtsa did not buy at all. then they gave up and did a "voluntary" recall of 170,000 seats only to backtrack and say eff that we're in the right forget you US market we're outta here

mismanagement all over that was surely validated by their recent bankruptcy

I work at a company that competes with Recaro in non performance car markets… and I’m generally of the opinion that Recaro’s reputation vastly exceeds its products.
