    No Flow to Oil Cooler?

I have oil pressure but no oil is flowing to the oil cooler. Is there a thermostat in the oil filter housing that could be stuck closed? If so, can it be replaced or do I need to get a whole new oil filter housing?

There is a thermostat in the oil filter housing, but I'm not sure if there's a separate part no for it or if you need to buy a whole housing to get it. I know there are thermostat delete packages out there for hard core track day guys.

Good writeup on doing the delete below. But would not recommend the delete for a street car. Not sure the parts for the thermostat are available separately. You could disassemble the housing and clean it out.

But how do you know no oil is going to the cooler? What temp is the oil when you notice this behavior?

This article will go through the steps to install an oil diverter valve to your E46 M3 S54 oil filter housing (OFH) to lower engine oil temps. I'm

I did find that write up, I do want to keep the thermostat since the car will see some street driving. The car is running on a standalone and has a pressure sensor which is seeing oil pressure. The oil cooler is also an aftermarket setup but is just AN line to universal coolers, no check valves or anything that would block oil. The oil is getting all the way up to temp and the coolers are still cold. Check the lines after running and they are dry besides some residual oil. This is also all at idle.

Since you’re running an aftermarket cooler you may want to consider doing the delete with the BW kit and using an AN inline tstat.

I can’t find any data at what temp the valve opens but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was fairly high oil temp.

Not exactly what you're looking for but according to this thread the oil cooler valve closes at 200F and gradually opens above that temp. Not sure what temp is a max opening though.
