Headgasket DIY?

hey guys
bought a vert with a friend of mine, with knows issues so we are going through it all. get bumpers painted and added hard top.
need to do subframe reinforcement along with new clutch and it seems headgasket is also gone. so we will tackle that once subframe is done.

is there any DIY/s to follow to make it little easier on us? i have done bulletproofing vanos on my last m3 which went well.

also what special tools do we need? pin for TDC, cam bridge, and what about (not sure on name) to hold cams down while we remove them... anything else??

looks like head gasket season is open. here is my experience. worst two things where to remove the US headers and to remove the head while trying to get the fuel line through the throttle bodies. that fuel line sucks a lot! and putting the head back on while getting the fuel line back in place and trying to aline the head to the block was great... not! don't try this alone! we where two and used an engine hoist to help us. this thing is heavy! do the vanos, valve adjustment and if you have US headers I suggest to change them as well. the euro headers are way easier to get back in as you will have much more space.
